Apple's domestic shipments plummeted 33% to less than 2.4 million units in February, will it be useful if Cook comes?

According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Apple shipped about 5.5 million units in January, down about 39% year-on-year. And in February, although the downtrend eased, it was still as high as 33%.

According to an analysis report from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the shipments of mobile phones in the domestic market in February 2024 were 14.257 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 32.9%, and the shipments of domestic brand mobile phones in February were 11.842 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 32.5%, accounting for 82.7% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.

Considering that the current overseas mobile phone brands in the Chinese mainland market are mainly Apple and Samsung, and Samsung's mobile phone shipments are minimal, we can easily calculate that Apple's iPhone sales account for 99% of overseas mobile phone shipments, less than 2.4 million units.

In February 2023, Apple's domestic shipments reached about 3.6 million units, so it can be calculated that Apple's shipments in February fell by about 33% year-on-year, which is basically in line with the increase in the entire market.

In order to cope with the decline in iPhone sales in the Chinese market, Apple has also made a lot of efforts. First of all, Apple's official website directly launched the "New Year limited-time offer" campaign for iPhones, including the iPhone 15 series, in January, and a few days ago it also launched a promotional page on the official website to encourage older models to upgrade to the iPhone 15.

Of course, as Apple's CEO, Cook should also be anxious to see the performance of the iPhone in the Chinese market. Taking advantage of the opening of Apple's Jing'an store, I came to the scene in person to interact with the fanatical fruit fans. In addition, Cook was interviewed at the China Development Forum, saying that he loves China and Chinese, and also promoted a wave of Apple Vision Pro will be launched in the Chinese market this year.

However, it remains to be seen whether these measures will make the iPhone more popular with Chinese consumers, after all, the Huawei P70 series is coming soon.
