author:Lead the cow to the rivers and lakes

The day before yesterday, I talked about a few things about Mr. Hu Shi, which aroused the anger of some people and accused him in the comment area. Actually, I just said a few facts, and I didn't make a conclusion about it for the sake of completely denying it, even if I was a saint, it was inevitable that there would be mistakes, and besides, the Hu family was far from being good, so why should I be like this?

The country is so backward, it is because you are not good, and you can't complain that others will come to invade you

In 1931, after the "918" incident, the domestic public was indignant and advocated the anti-Japanese war, and Mr. Hu Shih, then the dean of literature of Peking University, wrote in his diary: "I know this morning that at ten o'clock last night, the Japanese army attacked Shenyang and occupied the whole city, and the Chinese army did not resist. At noon, see "Morning Post Outside" to confirm the matter. This matter has been in mind for a long time, and at the beginning of August, Zaijun (Ding Wenjiang) took into account this. After the Sino-Japanese War (the Sino-Japanese War), it has been almost 40 years, and everything is lagging behind, how can it not be invaded by others. ”

And he said, "I can't go out to war, in my conscience...... I would rather die than learn this kind of strong language to advocate war!"

At the cost of selling the three eastern provinces, in exchange for Sino-Japanese friendship and long-term cooperation in East Asia

After the July 7 Incident, Hu Shi, Tao Xisheng and other main peace factions were active, and did not hesitate to completely abandon the three eastern provinces to promote peace with the Nationalist Government. Tao Xisheng was in charge of the "Opinions", and Hu Shi was in charge of formulating the conditions for peace. The first article proposed was that the government of the Republic of China recognized the three eastern provinces as the Republic of China and became Manchukuo.

1. Citizens in the territory of the three eastern provinces shall be free to choose their nationality.

2. Within the territory of the three eastern provinces, the people of the Republic of China shall enjoy the freedom to reside, to carry on business, and to acquire land and property.

3. The people of the three eastern provinces shall have full opportunity to become an autonomous and independent constitutional state through a gradual process.

4. In a certain period of time, if the people of Manchuria, in their free will, hold a general vote to return to the rule of the Republic of China, no other country shall interfere.

5. The whole province of Rehe was returned to the Republic of China, and the Chinese government appointed civil officials to organize a modern provincial government in Rehe, and the whole province of Rehe was to be treated as an unarmed area.

6. From Linyu County (Shanhaiguan) to the Great Wall line, the Republic of China will set up a defensive line.

and Wang Jingwei fell in love at first sight and cherished each other

In September 1923, Hu Shi went to Hangzhou to recuperate. Wang Jingwei expressed his hope to Hu Shi through Ren Shujun, and Hu Shi readily agreed. According to Xu Zhimo's diary, Hu Wang can be described as love at first sight. "The day before yesterday, I took a special car to the diagonal bridge, accompanied by Shuyong, Shafei, Jingnong, and Shafei's husband Ellery, and Shuyong introduced Wang Jingwei. In 1918, I saw him once on the ship in Nanjing, he was really a beautiful man, cute! It is appropriate to say that if he were a woman, he would love him to the death, he was a man...... Jingwei's eyes are round and bright, as if they are a little cyan, sensitive and chivalrous. ”

In August 1924, Sun Yat-sen saw Hu Shih's article "Talking Less" and angrily commented: "The editors and reporters have no common sense, and it is a pity that they are so far behind...... Don't you know that Hu is the person who defended Chen Jiongming? Hu said that Chen Zhi's transformation into a revolution. Since then, the two have been at odds. Wang Jingwei, on the other hand, has been mediating in an attempt to ease the relationship between the two. In the spring of 1925, Sun Yat-sen was seriously ill, Wang Jingwei promptly notified Hu Shi, Hu also understood, and invited the famous doctor Lu Zhongan (a famous Chinese medicine doctor in Beijing in the early years of the Republic of China, who made good use of Chinese medicine astragalus to treat difficult diseases) to visit him, and he also visited in person. It can be seen that the friendship between Hu and Wang at this time is already very deep.

Later, Wang Jingwei defected to the enemy and died in Japan in 1944. Hu Shi wrote in his diary: "Wang Jingwei died in a Japanese hospital. Wretched. Jingwei has suffered a loss in his life because he is famous as a 'martyr', and he inevitably has a 'martyr' complex throughout his life, he always feels that 'I don't care about my life, can't you still believe me'?

In his letter to Gaozongwu: "Jingweizhi did not hesitate to sacrifice everything, and his reputation and life were not to be cherished, and finally embarked on a dead end,...... In the past twenty or thirty years, his 'notoriety' may not be washed away. It's a pity that a very lovely person has the most bloody life and can't live up to his 'notoriety' and die!"
