Specifically, there were eight models of joint venture compact cars that sold more than 10,000 units in January, and four of them sold more than 20,000 units. Volkswagen Lavida surpassed Nissan Sylphy to win the sales championship of the joint venture compact car in January with a sales volume of 32,419 units, and it was also the sales champion in the domestic sedan market that month. Sylphy retreated to second place, with 30,384 retail sales in January, down 37.2% month-on-month.

Volkswagen Sutar's sales also fell 20.3%, ranking third with 27,826 units sold in January. The Honda Civic followed closely behind, ranking fourth with 21,234 units sold, with sales up 82.1% month-on-month.

Toyota Corolla and Honda both sold 13,000 units, ranking fifth and sixth, which is not much different from the sales in December last year.

Volkswagen Bora and Hyundai Elantra both sold 11,000 units, ranking seventh and eighth with 11,695 and 11,301 units sold, respectively. Chevrolet Cruze's sales fell below the 10,000 mark for two consecutive months, ranking ninth with 8,181 units sold in January.
