According to the records of Baoshan County, the Luodian dragon boat began in the Ming Dynasty, during this period, the dragon boat was generally popular in the Jiangnan region, but in the process of inheritance, Luodian continued to change and innovate according to local characteristics. According to Zhang Guozhong, the fourth-generation inheritor of Luodian dragon boats, there are dragon boats all over the country, although the styles are very different, but most of them are based on boat racing, but Luodian dragon boats are unique, "heavy viewing, performance-based". Luodian dragon boat began in the Ming Dynasty and flourished in the Qing Dynasty, it brings together the essence of shipbuilding, architecture, carving, lantern, brocade, embroidery and many other plastic arts, and integrates percussion, silk and bamboo music, drama, quyi, dance, acrobatics and other folk performing arts.
The Luodian dragon boat is also different from our common dragon boats in terms of shape, and its characteristics of "raising the head" and "cocking the tail" are very obvious. Luodian is the land of fish and rice, the local river is tortuous and narrow, in order to facilitate the passage, so the dragon boat born from the local "beach boat" is made small and exquisite, the dragon's mouth is open to the sky, and the dragon's tail is high. In this way, not only can you drive flexibly in the river, but also highlight the unique regional culture.
Luodian has long had a "five-color dragon boat", and later developed into a "colorful dragon boat". According to the memories of the old people in the town, the seven dragon ships in Luodian were called "green dragons, yellow dragons, white dragons, black dragons, purple dragons, jade dragons and golden dragons" according to different background colors. Later, due to the war, no one did the dragon boat and no one rowed, until 1993, the three brothers of the Zhang family, who were over the age of sixties, were unwilling to let the Luodian dragon boat disappear from history, and spent more than half a year to build a green dragon boat at their own expense. In 1994, the People's Government of Luodian Town funded the construction of a dragon boat and held the first Shanghai Luodian Dragon Boat Cultural Festival. In 2004, the costumed Luodian dragon boat shined at the 4th Shanghai Baoshan International Folk Art Festival. Since then, Luodian Dragon Boat has returned to the public eye.
Zhang Guozhong, who was born in a shipbuilding family, became the fourth generation inheritor, following his father and two uncles to learn to make dragon boats, and successively built an 8-meter-long yellow dragon and a 12-meter-long purple dragon and jade dragon.
Zhang Guozhong told reporters that it is becoming more and more difficult to make a dragon ship now. First, there are fewer and fewer manufacturers of shipbuilding materials, and he often has to go to other places to find suitable materials, which is time-consuming and laborious. With the custom of Luodian dragon boat being included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage items, in recent years, the party committee and government of Luodian Town have attached great importance to the protection and excavation of Luodian dragon boat culture. In addition to successively formulating policy documents such as the Implementation Plan for the Protection of Luodian Dragon Boat and Luodian Lantern Project, the Implementation Opinions of Luodian Town on Encouraging Social Forces to Participate in the Protection and Inheritance of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the "14th Five-Year Plan for Cultural Tourism Development of Luodian Town", the Luodian Town Community Cultural Activity Center is also actively communicating with Shanghai Vocational and Technical College of Fine Arts and other colleges and universities to form a cultural co-construction. At the same time, it has established an intangible cultural heritage inheritance alliance with Luodian Middle School, starting from young people, and injecting fresh blood into the inheritance of Luodian dragon boats.
Meng Xianglei, a full-time intangible cultural heritage worker at the Luodian Town Community Cultural Activity Center, is a post-00 generation, before joining the company, she grew up in Minhang District and did not know much about the Luodian Dragon Boat, and even when she asked some friends in Baoshan District, she did not know much about this local characteristic folk custom. In her opinion, to strengthen the protection of dragon boat culture, it is necessary to open channels for young people to understand, so that the communication method can be more in line with the times and close to the preferences of young people.
According to Meng Xianglei, the center is recently cooperating with professional writers and painters invited by the Baoshan District Library to compile a parent-child picture book called "Golden Dragon Boat", hoping to use it as a carrier to tell the story of the dragon boat. At the same time, the center is also cooperating with Luodian No. 2 Middle School to compile dragon boat textbooks to fully integrate Luodian dragon boats into the campus classroom. As a new force in the protection of intangible cultural heritage, Meng Xianglei also hopes to explore some new ways and means to promote the dragon boat culture of Luodian through her work. "Relying on picture books, we also plan to create a parent-child stage play, so that parents and children can experience the charm of Luodian Dragon Boat in the stage play. At the same time, it cooperates with schools to set up carpentry courses, so that students can participate in the activities of dragon boat model carving, adding young blood to cultural inheritance. ”
