According to the data of the Passenger Car Association, the retail sales of passenger cars in January 2024 reached 2.035 million units, a year-on-year increase of 57.4% and a month-on-month decrease of 13.9%. Among them, an important factor of 57.4% year-on-year growth is the difference in pre-holiday consumption time brought about by the Spring Festival. In December, some sales overdrafts affected the month-on-month growth of sales in January. At the same time, it is expected that the prices of some models will rebound, and local consumption promotion activities will decrease, which will constitute a trend that is not conducive to January.

1. Changan (Chinese brand passenger car)
January sales: 232,500 units
According to released data, Changan Automobile sold more than 323,000 vehicles in January, a year-on-year increase of 90.2%. Among them, the sales volume of Changan's Chinese brand passenger cars was 232,500, a year-on-year increase of 97.8%.
Driven by star products, Changan's traditional fuel vehicles continue to sell well, stabilizing the sales base. For example, Changan CS75 series sold 41,500 units in January, up 87.7% year-on-year, Changan CS55 series sold 19,500 units in January, up 71.1% year-on-year, Changan UNI-V series sold 19,200 units in January, up 114.2% year-on-year, Changan Z6 series sold 16,100 units in January, up 152.6% year-on-year, and Changan Shuangyi series sold 34,700 units in January, up 95.9% year-on-year.
In addition, Changan's own brand new energy sales were 62,000 units, and Changan Automobile's own brand overseas sales were 46,600 units, both of which contributed to a good market growth.
2. Geely
January sales: 213,400 units
According to the data, in January 2024, Geely Automobile's total sales volume was 213,400 units, a year-on-year increase of 110.5%.
By brand, Geely brand increased by 98% year-on-year to 172,800 units, Zeekr increased by 302% year-on-year to 12,500 units, and Lynk & Co increased by 155% year-on-year to 28,200 units.
Although Geely's sales surpassed BYD's, the overall sales of new energy vehicles did not account for a high proportion, of which 36,300 pure electric vehicles and 29,500 plug-in hybrid vehicles were sold. In 2024, Geely's sales target is set at 1.9 million units, and new energy sales will increase by more than 66%. In other words, Geely's new energy sales target this year is no less than 800,000 units.
3. BYD
Sales in January: 201,000 units
According to BYD's sales data, BYD's total sales in January 2024 were 201,493 units, up 33.1% year-on-year and down 40.9% month-on-month from December last year.
Of these, 185,096 units were in the Dynasty and Ocean series, 9,068 units were in the Denza series, 1,652 units were in Yangwang, 5,203 units were in the Formula Leopard, and 36,174 units were exported.
In terms of specific models, except for the Tang, the sales of the other four models of Dynasty Network have exceeded 10,000 units; in the Ocean Network, the Seagull has a strong performance, with sales of more than 36,000 units; Song PLUS series and Dolphin are also responsible for sales; Denza D9 is still gaining momentum, and there is still a sales performance of more than 8,000, but unfortunately the Denza N7 and N8 are still not improving. Looking up at the U8 and Equation Leopard, continue to have good performances.
4. Chery Group
Sales in January: 200,000 units
According to the latest sales report released by Chery Holding Group, in January 2024, Chery Group sold 200,992 Chinese brand cars, a year-on-year increase of 107.5%. This is the fourth consecutive month that monthly sales have exceeded 200,000 units.
By brand, the Chery brand sold 135,000 units in a single month, a year-on-year increase of 93%, the Xingtu brand sold 8,930 units in a single month, a year-on-year increase of 87.9%, and the Jietu brand sold 42,900 units in a single month, a year-on-year increase of 168.3%. It is worth mentioning that the Jietu brand also ushered in the 1 millionth vehicle off the assembly line in January, and plans to launch the Jietu Shanhai T2 in the first quarter of 2024.
Specifically, Chery brand sales in January were 135,130 units, up 93% year-on-year. The sales volume of the Xingtu brand was 8,930 units, a year-on-year increase of 87.9%. The Jietu brand sold 42,956 units in January, up 168.3% year-on-year.
At present, Chery Group includes four major brands, namely Chery, Xingtu, Jietu and iCAR, among which Xingtu, as a brand in the high-end market, mainly focuses on the two major tracks of pure electric and extended range; Jietu, as Chery's main brand in the direction of hybrid, focuses on off-road routes; iCAR is the first independent new energy electric brand under Chery Group; and the newly released Chery Fengyun series will make every effort to lay out the hybrid market.
5. Great Wall Motors
January sales: 104,000 units
According to Great Wall Motor's official announcement, it sold 104,030 new vehicles in January, up 69.06% year-on-year, 25,030 new energy vehicles (including new energy commercial vehicles), up 295.48% year-on-year, and 26,374 new cars sold overseas in the first month of the year, up 64.86% year-on-year.
By brand, Haval sold 59,103 new vehicles in January, up 50.80% year-on-year. Among them, Haval New Energy sold 6,005 units, up 276.25% year-on-year, Tank sold 20,067 new vehicles in January, up 239.26% year-on-year, Ora sold 6,001 new vehicles in January, up 63.25% year-on-year, Great Wall Pickup sold 15,466 new vehicles in January, up 32.41% year-on-year, and WEY sold 3,351 new vehicles in January, up 217.33% year-on-year.
In overseas markets, Great Wall Motor sold 26,374 new vehicles in January, reflecting a 64.86% y/y increase. As of January, Great Wall Motor's overseas sales have exceeded 1.4 million units.
6. SAIC Passenger Vehicle
1月销量：5.56万辆
SAIC's independent segment sales were stable, with sales of 50,000 passenger vehicles in January, down 9.17% y/y. The high-end brand Zhiji Automobile sold 5,001 units in January, achieving a significant increase.
At present, SAIC Passenger Vehicle has assembled three major brands: Roewe, MG and Feifan. Among them, Roewe launched a new D series model, and MG's performance can also be described as a boom, with SAIC MG brand delivering 20,000 units in developed countries in Europe. In addition, Feifan is still on the rise at this stage, and it urgently needs more models to enrich the product matrix.
As for Zhiji Automobile, which takes the high-end route, there are currently three products on sale, namely Zhiji L7 and Zhiji LS7, as well as LS6. The LS6, which was launched in mid-October of this year, has become the main model sold by Zhiji Automobile.
7. GAC Group
January sales: 44,000 units
GAC Group released its January production and sales report, and the group's terminal retail sales reached 194,400 units, a year-on-year increase of 45.3%. Among them, the sales of new energy vehicles reached 18,700 units. In terms of its own brands, GAC Passenger Vehicle sold 33,799 units in January, and the MPV family is still the main sales force of Trumpchi.
GAC Aion sold 11,005 vehicles in November, a year-on-year increase of 34%. At present, Aion has two major sub-brands, one is the AION brand, whose main models are AION Y, AION S and AION V PLUS, which are mainly concentrated in the online car-hailing market, and the other is the Haobo Hyper brand, which is positioned at the mid-to-high-end consumer group.
