On February 5, the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia held a donation ceremony to some herders affected by the snow in Houhangai Province and Dongfang Province of Mongolia. Ambassador Shen Minjuan handed over the donation to the Vice Governor of Hou Hangai Province Sanji Miyateb and the Chief of Staff of the Eastern Provincial Government Batwuliji, and the Director General of the Mongolian Emergency Emergencies Directorate General Arong Buyin, the Director of the Climate Change and Disaster Management Agency of the Red Cross Mungentuya and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mongolia Tapan Misra attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Shen said that China and Mongolia are good neighbors adjacent to mountains and rivers, and have a tradition of supporting each other in the face of disasters. The Chinese Embassy in Mongolia is highly concerned about the disaster situation in Mongolia this winter and is willing to provide assistance to a total of 100 families in Houhangai Province and Dongfang Province to help them tide over the difficulties. China is also ready to strengthen capacity-building cooperation with the General Directorate of Emergency Situations of Mongolia and other departments to enhance Mongolia's disaster preparedness capacity.
Ambassador Shen said that responding to climate change and improving disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities are the key points of cooperation between China and Mongolia. China's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has just launched its first project in Mongolia to provide forest firefighting equipment to Mongolia. The inauguration of the China-Mongolia Cooperation Center for Desertification Control in Ulaanbaatar in September last year is a concrete measure taken by China to support Mongolia's "planting 1 billion trees" initiative. China is ready to carry out more cooperation with Mongolia in the field of climate change response and promote the building of a community with a shared future.
The heads of Mongolia's Houhangai, Eastern and Eastern Provinces and the General Emergency Situations Bureau said that Mongolia has been affected by severe snowstorms since last year, and thanked the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia for extending a helping hand in difficult times, which reflects the deep traditional friendship between the two countries. Mongolia looks forward to learning from China's successful experience in disaster prevention and mitigation.
