Tencent Auto reported on February 6 that the new Audi RS 6 Avant GT made its world debut, with a global limited edition of 660 units, with a quota of 66 units in the Chinese market, and is expected to be launched in China in 2025. Inspired by the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO, the car features a classic racing livery with a host of carbon fibre exterior components, new bucket seats and exclusive interior details, complemented by an exclusive GT logo and limited edition designation. It is powered by a V8 twin-turbo engine that accelerates to 100 km/h with 630 hp in just 3.3 seconds.

The exterior of the new Audi RS 6 Avant GT pays homage to the Audi 90 IMSA GTO racing car, with a high-gloss black finish on the integrated grille and side air intakes, vertical wings on the front apron, a newly designed grille grid and a powerful front shunt integrated into the bumper.

An integrated air vent behind the massive 22-inch front wheel hub reduces air pressure in the wheel arches and improves brake cooling. Like the hood, the fenders in the front wheel position are also made entirely of carbon fibre for the first time.

At the rear, the black 'RS 6 GT' lettering underlines its special edition identity, while the tailgate visually lowers the loading edge, and the vertically centred reflector on the diffuser gives the rear a wider rear, with a motorsport-inspired double-layer fin. Notably, the RS 6 Avant GT does away with the roof rack.

The Audi RS 6 Avant GT comes standard with the RS Style Plus package, which is finished in black with a number of customised red and bronze accents, such as steering wheel stitching, sides of the centre console, centre armrest, door armrests and floor mats with "RS 6 GT" lettering. The same colour scheme is also used in the new RS bucket sports seats in leather and Dinamica, as well as the "RS 6 GT" lettering under the headrests. The honeycomb stitching in the center of the seat is a striking bright red, while the outer stitching of the bucket seat is copper.

As a special design, the center console bears the serial number of the 660 limited edition cars.

Performance and handling

The Audi RS 6 Avant GT is powered by a V8 twin-turbo engine with an output of 463 kW (630 hp) and 850 Nm of torque between 2,300 and 4,500 rpm, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 11.5 seconds, with a top speed of 305 km/h and RS ceramic braking as standard. Compared to the base Audi RS 6 Avant, the new model has an additional 22 kW (30 hp) and 50 Nm more torque, accelerating 0.3 seconds to 100 km/h and 0.5 seconds faster to 0-200 km/h.

The Audi RS 6 Avant GT is powered by an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox with the same self-locking center differential as the Audi RS 6 Avant performance. The power is precisely distributed to the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio. In the event of wheel slippage, more drive torque is automatically distributed to the axles with better traction, up to 70% for the front axle and up to 85% for the rear. Unlike other RS models, the quattro sports differential on the rear axle has been specially tuned, with new parameters focused on agility and a bias of power distribution towards the rear axle in the "dynamic" driving mode.

The Audi RS 6 Avant GT is the first Audi model to be equipped with adjustable coil-spring suspension as standard. Compared to the base Audi RS 6 Avant, the suspension system reduces vehicle height by 10 millimetres, and features higher spring rates, three-way adjustable shock absorbers and stiffer stabilizer bars (30 percent and 80 percent stiffer front and rear axles, respectively) to reduce body roll and significantly improve driving pleasure. In order to make it easier for the customer to make individual adjustments, the vehicle is also equipped with the necessary tools and corresponding instructions. Customers can also order RS Sport Suspension Plus with Dynamic Driver Control (DRC) or RS Adaptive Air Suspension.

Manufacturing

Unlike the regular Audi RS 6 Avant models, the new Audi RS 6 Avant GT models are not fully assembled on the production line at the Audi Neckarsum plant. After the 660 limited edition cars have been assembled and painted, they are sent to the nearby Audi factory in Böllinger Höfe. The plant is also responsible for the production of the Audi R8, the Audi e-tron GT quattro and the Audi RS e-tron GT.

Seven experienced professionals spent one day at the assembly station dedicated to this special edition to complete the final assembly and commissioning work. All GT models' exclusive components are meticulously assembled by hand, including the hood, bumpers, sill plates, double front fenders, front and rear aprons and adjustable coil-spring suspension to the best manufacturing level.
