Language and spirit
In July 2011, the research group of China Oil Painting Academy was formally established, the time is three years, the name of my project is "The Contemporary Development of Chinese Realist Oil Painting", this topic is formulated by me through the understanding of the basic situation of Chinese oil painting in the past few decades combined with my own artistic tendency, in order to cooperate with the improvement of this main topic, I am divided into three sub-topics divided into three years to complete.
The first year is for styling and character. The main content of the project is to conduct extensive and in-depth research within the basic scope of oil painting modeling, and seek the basic laws of modeling and the character of modeling in the Eastern and Western multi-modeling systems; the second year's plan is oil painting and emotion, exploring the deep integration of European traditional oil painting and Chinese Yellow River civilization within the scope of the basic laws of oil painting modeling; the topic of the third year is language and spirit, specifically, according to personal temperament and hobbies, choose the form of expression that conforms to the expression of personal emotions to establish a personalized oil painting language for oil painting creation, and infiltrate the atmosphere and taste of Chinese in the creation of oil painting。

From the launch of the project training program in 2011 to 2013, I painted a number of works on paper, such as "Foreman Liu Wang", "Dream", "Thick Earth", "Past Events", etc., which are the embodiment of my understanding of modeling at this stage, using gouache paint, charcoal, chalk and other materials, with a slight color. The use of a variety of materials is different from the stroke of the pencil, which increases the possibility and creative consciousness of the picture, and can capture the feeling as soon as possible, but no matter what kind of technical material, the focus is still modeling, aiming to accurately solve the changes of the form in the space and recognize the interspersed connection between the shapes. The form has visible natural attributes and implicit abstract attributes, if a work is just indulged in nature and plagiarized and simulated appearance, it will be trivial, no different from a photo, and the blind pursuit of abstract induction will make the concept of the picture boring, so in realistic painting, we should not only pay attention to the feeling but also recognize the abstract factors contained in the figurative modeling.

Oil painting comes from the West, Chinese oil painting must make greater progress in the study of the historical tradition of Western painting, study the scientific component and humanist spirit, the charm of realistic oil painting lies in the use of oil painting ontological language to reflect the modeling, is the painter to express the feeling of the complex, a realistic oil painting work if it loses the language and shape of the oil painting will only be left depictive, its value is equivalent to a photo, which is also the fundamental reason why realistic oil painting is different from photos. Studying the laws of painting ontology can only be an improvement for my own painting, so as to express the positive factors in the social change in China. I believe that China is in the best opportunity for cultural development in history, both horizontally and vertically. Due to its own characteristics and decades of good development and accumulation in China, realist oil painting should become the best art form that reflects the face of the current era and the mainstream ideology.

In the second half of the research project, that is, the stage of "language and spirit", I created a number of works, such as "Night Window", "Road Repairer", "Heroes Return - Farewell to Xiao Shengyin, a veteran of the Anti-Japanese War in Ezhuang, Shandong", "Research on Porcelain Restoration", etc., and participated in such works as "My Land and My People" (Shandong Art Museum, 2015) and "Chinese Spirit - The Fourth Exhibition of Chinese Oil Painting in Beijing" (National Art Museum of China, 2018) and other large-scale exhibitions in China, and two solo exhibitions in March 2017 and January 2018 at the National Art Museum of China and Lingnan Art Museum respectively, showing my recent major works and creative context. Compared with the early stage of the research group, the second half of the research pays more attention to the improvement of the artistry of the picture, focusing on the composition of the picture and the expression of the emotion of the picture.

Life is the source of creation, and I also like to sketch and create in life, because life can inspire more creative inspiration and bring more vitality to the work, so as to avoid rigidity and paleness. Realism not only depicts characters at all levels of life, but also a large number of landscapes, landscape sketching plays a great role in promoting the artistic development of a painter, it can directly exercise the painter's ability of composition and color analysis.

Through sincere observation and experience, and sincere dedication, I have a deeper understanding of the law and expressive characteristics of oil painting art, and my own talent and accumulated experience have been better released.
