However, looking at the sales list of fuel SUVs in 2023, it can be found that BBA has a tendency to go down the altar.
1. Haval H6 missed the top spot, and Chang'an Great Wall led the way
Judging from the list, domestic SUVs occupy the top two places in the sales list, and Changan CS75 PLUS tops the list with 240,000 sales. Last year's sales champion, the Haval H6, also ranked second with more than 210,000 sales.

However, Changan and Great Wall also have more than the top two SUVs on the list, the Great Wall's Haval dog sales of more than 120,000 throughout the year, and the sales of the Tank 300 are nearly 93,000.
Changan's CS75 PLUS achieved sales of nearly 100,000 units, and the Z6 and X5PLUS of Auchan's sub-brands also achieved sales of more than 70,000 units.
The sales of the Japanese SUV sales king fell by 200,000 this time.
2. The sales volume of the CR-V is less than 200,000 units, and the sales volume of Japanese and German brands is acceptable
Looking at the 2023 fuel SUV sales list, except for domestic brands, there are no models with sales of more than 200,000 SUVs of other brands.
On the surface, sales of Japanese and German gasoline SUVs are not bad, but the Honda CR-V, which has dominated the sales of joint venture SUVs for many years, has declined slightly from last year's sales of 210,000 units, achieving sales of 190,000 units. Toyota's Fenglander and RAV Rongfang both achieved sales of 180,000 units. At the same time, Corolla Ruifang also has 140,000 sales.
Volkswagen is undoubtedly the leader of the German fuel SUV, although only Tiguan has squeezed into the top ten sales list with 160,000 sales. However, with the product matrix composed of Tanyue, Tuyue, T-ROC Tange and other cars, Volkswagen still achieved more than 500,000 sales in the field of fuel SUVs last year.
However, these joint venture brands are now facing a collective siege from domestic brands, with Geely's Xingyue L achieving 160,000 sales, Boyue L also selling 130,000, and Chery's Tiggo 8 also continuing its solid performance, with 127,000 annual sales. However, when the domestic SUV market is blooming, some of BBA's SUV models have shown a trend of declining sales.
3. Audi Mercedes-Benz sales have both declined, and entry-level SUVs have not been able to cut
In the 2023 fuel SUV sales list, only the Audi Q5 SUV in the BBA is in the top ten. Moreover, the sales of the Audi A5 in the 139481 of 2023 have declined to a certain extent compared to the sales of 145778 units in 2022.
Sales of Audi's other products have declined even more, with the Audi Q3 selling 67,730 units in 2022 and only 52,008 units sold this year. Q2L's sales in the early 40,000s in 2022 are not very good, but in 2023, its sales have been cut in half, with only 18,471 units.
As the leader of Mercedes-Benz SUV sales, GLC will sell 113966 units in 2023, more than 30,000 units less than the 148797 units in 2022. GLA has also become a difficult brother to the Audi Q2L in 2023, with sales of less than 20,000 units.
Sales of the BMW X3 have also declined compared to the previous year, and the cumulative retail sales of 140991 units in 2022 will only be 116541 units in 2023. The BMW X1 will sell more than 80,000 units in 2022 and only 78,270 units in 2023.
In addition to the rise of new energy vehicles, the awakening of consumer awareness in recent years is also an important reason for the decline in BBA sales. BBA's business strategy of selling low-spec cars at a brand premium has become increasingly unworkable in recent years. However, these models with insufficient sincerity are precisely BBA's volume models, which has led to a significant decline in BBA's SUV sales in China.
