In 1982, an elderly woman in her 70s was resting quietly at home when a man excitedly ran in with a newspaper and told her, "You have been rehabilitated." After quietly listening to the rehabilitation report, she committed suicide a few months later.
This old man is the famous red female agent Guan Lu.
Guan Lu, formerly known as Hu Shoulin, was born in Youyu County, Shanxi Province in 1907.
In 1931, Guan Lu came to Shanghai, often participated in the patriotic anti-Japanese movement, and became a member of our party.
Guan Lu wrote a large number of anti-Japanese works in the Left Union, such as the poetry collection "Singing in the Pacific", and the song "In the Spring" spread all over the country.
In 1938, Guan Lu met Wang Bingnan through a friend of the Left League, and the two hit it off at first sight and could talk very well.
Guan Lu presented her collection of poems "Singing in the Pacific" to Wang Bingnan and gave him a Parker pen.
When handing over the book, Guan Lu inadvertently touched Wang Bingnan's hand, and she asked in surprise: "Why are your hands so cold, quickly put them in your pocket to warm up." ”
This sentence moved Wang Bingnan very much, and after Wang Bingnan arrived in Wuhan, he wrote to Guan Lu: "You care about me for a while, and I care about you for a lifetime." ”
Soon after, the two confirmed their relationship, and in the era of artillery fire, their correspondence never broke, and they agreed to organize a family after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
In the autumn of 1939, Ye Shuai asked Guan Lu to send a handwritten letter, asking her to go to Hong Kong to find Pan Hannian, who was the person in charge of intelligence work at the time, and Pan Hannian gave her a task to sneak to work next to Li Shiqun in Cave 76.
So why did Pan Hannian send Guan Lu to Li Shiqun's side?
Li Shiqun, who was also a member of our party, was arrested and imprisoned because his identity was exposed, and he could not stand the torture and turned himself in to join the military command.
After being released from prison, Li Shiqun contacted the organization again, and the organization asked him to kill the traitor Ding Mocun, but Li Shiqun and Ding Mocun were good friends, so they killed Ma Shaowu, the head of the Shanghai Section of the Investigation Department of the National Army, and told the organization that they had killed the wrong person.
Li Shiqun was arrested and imprisoned by the military commanders, and was tortured, and was rescued by Xu Enzeng, chief of the investigation section of the National Army, and Li Shiqun, after coming out, Li Shiqun took refuge in Wang Jingwei and became the person in charge of the No. 76 Demon Cave serving Wang Jingwei.
When Li Shiqun was imprisoned, his wife was pregnant with Liujia, and it was Guan Lu's sister Hu Xiufeng who took her in and took care of her, so Li Shiqun was especially grateful to the Guan Lu sisters.
Li Shiqun particularly hated the military command, and he successively got rid of the military command organizations in Shanghai, Nanjing, and other places, but there was one thing he never used red agents.
So the organization sent Guan Lu to fight for Li Shiqun.
When Guan Lu was about to go to Li Shiqun's side, Liao Chengzhi explained to her: "People will definitely call you a traitor, but you don't explain, don't confess, you have to endure humiliation." ”
Guan Lu replied, "I promise to do it." ”
Guan Lu entered Li Shiqun's No. 76 headquarters with little effort, Li Shiqun not only warmly welcomed Guan Lu, but also gave her a sum of money every month, he knew that Guan Lu was a red agent, and sometimes deliberately revealed some Japanese fake information to Guan Lu.
Guan Lu frequently came and went in and out of No. 76, and the comrades thought that Guan Lu had rebelled, and the Left League had changed its office location, and she was no longer notified of her daily activities, which made Guan Lu extremely depressed.
One day in the autumn of 1941, Li Shiqun asked Guan Lu to contact Pan Hannian because he was desperate to find a way out.
Li Shiqun saw that Guan Lu did not believe his sincerity, and he said excitedly: "Although I have taken refuge in Wang Jingwei, a Japanese, I have never arrested or killed a Communist Party. ”
At the beginning of 1942, with Guan Lu leading the way and agreeing to the organization, Pan Hannian went to Shanghai to talk with Li Shiqun.
Pan Hannian met with Li Shiqun three times, and for the last time, Li Shiqun took Pan Hannian hostage to see Wang Jingwei.
After the completion of the work task of No. 72, the organization gave Guan Lu a more difficult task, and asked her to work in "Female Voice", this publication was run by the Japanese Toshiko Sato, she is a progressive, and the organization hopes that Guan Lu will contact the Japanese Communist Party through her to obtain information.
This time, Guan Lu joined the Japanese publication as an editor, making her a "cultural traitor" in the hearts of the Chinese people.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, Guan Lu was on the list of traitors of the National Army, and in order to protect her, the organization transferred her to the liberated area of the New Fourth Army.
At the beginning of 1946, Wang Bingnan proposed to the organization that he wanted to marry Guan Lu, because Guan Lu was still under review and was dissuaded by the leadership, and if he got married at that time, the organization needed to approve it.
Wang Bingnan is a cadre with a very strong party spirit, and he can only reluctantly write a breakup letter to Guan Lu.
Guan Lu received Wang Bingnan's breakup letter and had a nervous breakdown.
In March 1949, Guan Lu knew that Wang Bingnan lived in Xiangshan, and went to him to save the relationship between the two, but Wang Bingnan returned the parka pen to Guan Lu and said three times: "Forget the past!"
Guan Lu couldn't help but burst into tears, and she said to Wang Bingnan: "From today onwards, I won't come to you until I die." ”
In 1955, Guan Lu was implicated in the Pan Hannian case and was imprisoned in Gongdelin Prison.
The review lasted two years, and Guan Lu was released due to insufficient evidence and returned to his original unit.
But because he worked in Wang's puppet department, he was infamous as a traitor.
Under the intervention of Li Kenong, Guan Lu was reinstated as a member of the party, and the original unit asked Guan Lu, who was not yet 50 years old, to retire on the grounds that he had not published his works for many years.
In July 1967, Guan Lu was arrested again because of the Pan Hannian case, this time, she was repeatedly arraigned, beaten, wronged and tortured, she even thought of suicide, but when she saw that those who committed suicide in prison were crowned as "suicide in fear of crime", and she was convicted of the crime, she was unwilling to die unjustly.
It was not until 1975 that Guan Lu was released again on the charge of "traitor".
After nearly ten years of torture, she suffered from hemiplegia due to the sequelae of cerebral thrombosis, and with the help of her colleagues, she found a room of less than 10 square meters in Xiangshan to live in.
Guan Lu kept appealing, hoping that the organization could take off the traitor hat imposed on her head, and it was not until March 23, 1982 that the Central Committee recognized Guan Lu's contribution to the party and rehabilitated her.
On December 5, 1982, Guan Lu, who had taken off his traitor hat, swallowed a large amount of Valium and ended his life.
Guan Lu's former lover Wang Bingnan has risen step by step in his career, working abroad for a long time, and was the vice minister of foreign affairs of the mainland in 1964.
At Guan Lu's memorial service, Wang Bingnan said bitterly: "It is very unfair and inappropriate for a left-wing writer who is already very famous to be a cultural traitor to the Japanese. ”
The house where Guan Lu lives
Guan Lu has no regrets about any task assigned by the party, and completes it to the letter, sacrificing love and family for this.
After liberation, when suffering injustice, he maintained a firm belief and worked hard to get his innocence back, Guan Lu is the epitome of that generation of intelligence officers, and it is their endurance and humiliation that have brought about today's peaceful and prosperous world.
