The Extreme N-type 700W+ bravely braved the -53°C Mohe, and the 210 module ended with the "Extreme Cold Challenge" in two snow seasons a year!

With the popularity of ice and snow tourism in Northeast China, Mohe, located in the northernmost part of China, has once again entered the public eye. Here, the weather is as low as -20°C for up to 6 months per year, making it a valuable place to verify the reliability and power generation performance of photovoltaic modules.

Starting in January 2023, Trina Solar's 210 Extreme series modules have been tested in extreme cold climate in Mohe, the far north of China, and have been tested by extreme low temperatures and snowstorms. According to the latest empirical results, the 210 Extreme series modules, including the Extreme N-type 700W, the Extreme N-type 610W, and the Extreme 670W, have performed well and installed stably after the cold winter, showing excellent reliability and power generation performance.

The extremely cold climate of Mohe puts forward higher requirements for the reliability and power generation performance of photovoltaic modules, let's take a look at the specific performance of Supreme modules in the two demonstration bases.

Test location: Extreme Cold Test Park of Guojian Group

Test duration: 5 months (September 2023 – present)

At the end of August 2023, the 700W series modules and 610W series modules of the Supreme N-type modules were officially settled in the Mohe Extreme Cold Test Park of the State Inspection Group, starting a one-year outdoor demonstration of extremely cold climate. During the demonstration period, the test module experienced several continuous snowfalls, with a minimum temperature of -43°C and a snow cover of 7 cm. With its extreme design and long-lasting and reliable quality, Trina Solar's N-type 700W series and 610W series modules have successfully passed the test of extreme low temperatures and severe snowstorms.

Taking the Extreme N-type 700W series module as an example, the results of the on-site visual inspection show that after several months of operation, the appearance of the module is not significantly damaged, and the cell is intact. According to the on-site EL test results, there is no significant change in the EL image of the module, the busbar line is clear, and there is no hidden crack in the cell. It can be seen that under extremely cold climate conditions, the Extreme N-type 700W series modules operate stably and have high safety and reliability.

In terms of power generation performance, the Extreme N-type 700W series modules have excellent performance under low irradiation and high power generation efficiency. In January, when the coldest month was below -30°C, the Extreme N-type 700W series modules generated about 276kWh of electricity per month, and the system energy efficiency ratio exceeded 100% when considering the backside gain, and the power generation performance was excellent.

Test location: Mohe outdoor demonstration base of Jianheng certification

Test duration: 1 year (January-December 2023)

Trina Solar is the first company to settle in the Mohe Outdoor Demonstration Base certified by Jianheng and the first company to do extremely cold climate demonstration in Mohe. The Extreme 670W series modules officially began to be tested at this base on January 1, 2023, and it has been one year since then. In the past year, the Extreme 600W+ module has experienced two cold winters and accepted the test of extreme cold at the lowest -53°C in history.

From the start of testing in January 2023 to now, the Extreme 670W series modules are still working well. According to the empirical report, there is no obvious change in the EL image of the Extreme 670W series module, and the module installation is stable, there is no obvious loosening, and it is still very strong after wind and snow. In terms of power generation, the total effective utilization hours of the Extreme 670W series bifacial modules reached 1138.15kWh/kWp, and the power generation gain of bifacial modules reached 7.34% compared with that of monofacial modules, and the advantages of additional power generation were obvious.
