On January 31, Samsung's latest flagship mobile phone, the S24 Ultra, officially went on sale, but the new phone has been listed in advance in some places. As Samsung's first model with a titanium body, you might be curious if its titanium body and new Gorilla Armor Glass can stand up to all kinds of tests.
As such a high-profile model, a YouTuber recently uploaded a video in which the S24 Ultra underwent his traditional "durability test", which includes items such as scratches, fire, and bending, to test how reliable the new device is.
First of all, it's important to note that Samsung hasn't revealed which grade of titanium it uses – Apple uses grade 5, which is one of the two most common levels, and the other is grade 2. Grade 5 titanium is more expensive than grade 2 titanium, so companies that use grade 5 titanium usually brag about it, while those that use grade 2 titanium are silent. We can't be sure if that's the case for Samsung – after all, it's significantly upgraded its speakers in the S24 series without telling anyone.
In the test, the video authors first tested the scratch resistance of the S24 Ultra screen, and the Gorilla Armor glass on the screen showed subtle scratches at 6 on the Mohs scale, although there were still scratches when using the 7 hardness test, but it was not as deep as other types of glass, so the Gorilla Armor seemed to be more than just a gimmick. Deeper scratches only appear at level 8, a first in the mobile phone world.
However, the titanium alloy bezel of the phone is not scratch-resistant, so of course it will be scratched. However, it is not clear whether the side buttons are titanium or aluminum. It also used a lighter to burn the screen for 30 seconds, leaving only a white mark in the end. In the final bend test, the S24 Ultra passed without a hitch. There is a slight bend when bent from both sides, but there is no cracking at all. This also reflects the addition of titanium alloy to bring stronger rigidity to the fuselage.
