At the Fourth Session of the Seventh CPPCC Municipal Committee, Zhang Gong, a member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, put forward the "Proposal on Implementing the New National Curriculum Standards, Promoting Youth Mountaineering and Hiking, and Solving the Problem of "Crispy and Hollow" for Primary and Secondary School Students

Among the CPPCC members who came to attend the Fourth Session of the Seventh CPPCC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Zhang Gong was very recognizable. He was dressed in a red sweatshirt, his steps were vigorous, and his slightly thin clothes were particularly noticeable in this round of low temperature weather. This functional quick-drying suit is also the clothes he specially chose, although it doesn't look thick, but it is very warm. "I am a mountaineering enthusiast and in recent years have been working on the popularity of mountaineering among young people. Today's outfit expresses my attitude towards sports and calls for everyone to pay attention to health issues. ”

The reporter learned that Zhang Gong is a professor at the School of Life Science and Technology of Jinan University, an outstanding scientist in the field of genetic testing, and a co-chair of the International Human Proteome Project. And one of the main proposals he brought this time - "Suggestions on Implementing the New National Curriculum Standards, Promoting Youth Mountaineering and Hiking Sports, and Solving the Problem of "Crispy and Hollow" for Primary and Secondary School Students" is about youth education. Zhang Gong called on Shenzhen to promote outdoor mountaineering among young people in schools, so as to solve the common problems of "crispy" and "hollow" among primary and secondary school students.

A few days ago, a reporter from Jingbao interviewed Zhang Gong and discovered that the story behind this proposal could be told from his daughter.

Mountaineering and hiking can bring to the growth of children

Exactly one year ago, on January 30, 2023, Zhang Gong's daughter Zhang Miaoyi climbed a platform at an altitude of 4,900 meters on Siguniang Mountain.

Mountaineering reshapes children's minds

Zhang Gong's daughter, Zhang Miaoyi, developed her athletic abilities later than her peers when she was a child. For this reason, Zhang Gong measured the whole genome of his daughter when she was one year old, found her genetic defects in nutrition, and corrected them through diet in time, and soon caught up in development.

But with the increase of academic burden, Zhang Miaoyi also began to be nearsighted, and there were health problems with scoliosis.

One day, Zhang Miaoyi read a book and suddenly told Zhang Gong that she wanted to climb Gongga Snow Mountain. "The average parent may think that it is whimsical for such a young child to climb a snowy mountain, because when I was studying in Germany, I was a member of the Alpine Mountaineering Association, and my own physical fitness was very poor, but when I was in Europe, I climbed several mountains and had the knowledge and ability to climb mountains. There is almost no precedent in the world for a child to climb a snowy mountain, but I don't think it's a fantasy. ”

Later, through a series of research, Zhang Gong began to take his children to prepare for mountaineering. Under the scientific training support system, Zhang Miaoyi began to try high-altitude mountaineering projects. When Zhang Miaoyi was 8 years old, Zhang Gong began to take her to climb the 5,025-meter-high Siguniang Mountain, "because it is a very high mountain that is relatively easy to climb, but it took a total of three times to successfully reach the summit." ”

In July 2022, Zhang Miaoyi underwent a lower limb strength test.

With the experience of successfully climbing to the top, Zhang Miaoyi herself wanted to challenge a higher mountain. In July 2023, 9-year-old Zhang Miaoyi successfully climbed the 6,178-meter-high Yuzhu Peak in Qinghai, breaking the record for the youngest age to reach the Yuzhu Peak without oxygen in China. Zhang Gong mentioned that he insisted that Zhang Miaoyi carry all the survival equipment on her back during the whole process of climbing Yuzhu Peak, "including food, water, clothing, etc., with a total weight of nearly 8 kilograms, which is one-third of her weight, which is the limit of the average person's mountaineering ability." If you walk slowly, you can walk slowly, even if you can't reach the top, you will come back next time, but the red line of safety must not be crossed. This is the same as having to wear a seatbelt when driving. The equipment allowed her to survive alone for 24 hours in the worst weather of the year on Mount Everest, waiting for rescue. ”

And along with it, there is also a huge improvement in Zhang Miaoyi's physical fitness and mental character. "After climbing the mountain, I found that my child seemed to be a different person, and she was very afraid to challenge new things before, always saying that I would not be able to do it, but through many attempts and challenges in mountaineering, she deeply realized that even if no one in the world has ever done something, as long as she works hard to do it, she will be able to succeed one day, and her mantra has become, 'I will do it', and, 'I will do it next time!'"

In addition, mountaineering made Zhang Miaoyi's scoliosis recover unconsciously, and the rapid growth of myopia was completely curbed.

Zhang Miaoyi climbed the mountain under the guidance of one-on-one alpine cooperation.

It is precisely because of seeing the gratifying changes in his daughter that Zhang Gong feels that "the experiment has been successful", "My own children are okay, so can I also take other children with me?" Later, he broke through many theoretical misunderstandings with physical fitness experts in Shenzhen and other places, and even subverted many people's cognition, proposing that teenagers are more suitable for climbing snow-capped mountains than adults, and gradually formed a set of youth mountaineering system, including scientific training, nutritional protection, and the blessing of science and technology. "With this system, we dared to take other children to climb the mountain, and although some of them succeeded (to the top) and some did not, each child has changed a lot. ”

Shenzhen has the resources to promote youth mountaineering

"Primary and secondary school students in the compulsory education stage are the hope of the future of the motherland, but the current problem of 'crispy and hollow' primary and secondary school students is very serious. Zhang Gong wrote at the beginning of the proposal. According to the data of the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, the obesity rate of primary and secondary school students in Shenzhen in 2020 was 22.47%, and the myopia rate exceeded 60%, and they are increasing year by year. The term "hollow" refers to the growing mental health problems among primary and secondary school students.

Zhang Gong noticed that in the "Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education "Physical Education and Health" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2022, special sports skills courses include "survival and adventure projects", such as mountaineering and rock climbing. Compared with rock climbing, mountaineering and hiking are relatively easy to organize, and the requirements for the site are not high, and the investment is small and the harvest is very large. "It doesn't have to be to climb the snow-capped mountains, climb Mount Tai and Huangshan, and enjoy the famous mountains of China, even if you go to climb Wutong Mountain, you can also gain something. ”

In his proposal, Zhang Gong listed the many benefits of the school's hiking and mountaineering programs: the sense of accomplishment and joy of climbing the mountain can be enjoyed by every child, the full exposure to ultraviolet rays in outdoor sports can effectively curb myopia, the intervention effect on depression, school boredom and other psychological problems, and the popularization of disaster prevention and mitigation knowledge, so that children have the ability to escape and save themselves when disasters come.

The reason why the current mountaineering project has not been effectively promoted in schools is that there is a certain misunderstanding among schools and parents, that is, they believe that outdoor sports are prone to danger. In fact, according to official Chinese statistics, there has not been a single serious injury to legal high-altitude mountaineering on the mainland since 2010. ”

Zhang Gong mentioned that at present, some primary schools in Guangzhou and Dongguan have comprehensively promoted youth mountaineering, including organizing corresponding training in school physical education classes, and have achieved good results, and the rate of students' excellent physical health has increased from 50.1% to 73.9% within one semester. Some elementary schools have already formed high-altitude mountaineering teams to prepare to summit the snow-capped mountains during the winter vacation.

"There is already a training and support system for young people to climb and hike, and I am one of the contributors and practitioners of this system. As the birthplace of China's folk outdoor mountaineering, Shenzhen has a good mass foundation for mountaineering and outdoor sports, and it will be a pity if it falls behind. Zhang Gong said that as a member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, he very much hopes that Shenzhen will make good use of favorable resources, such as "430 after-school services" and other classroom forms and corresponding social resources, etc., to take the first step to promote outdoor hiking and mountaineering for young people, and then effectively solve the problem of "crispy and hollow" for primary and secondary school students.
