He cites his personal design of the sofa as an example: "Although the sofa came from the West, we reconstructed the object through a pioneering and open design, which is both a daily object and an art installation. As an artist who has been immersed in Jinjiang for many years, Xu Liaoyuan feels that the most essential part of his life is spent here, and the sound of Jinjiang waves and poetic "smoke and water" are the "spiritual hometown" of personal artistic creation, and "the cultural roots that art and thinking cannot be separated". In his view, the richness of the land of Bashu is a kind of nourishment from ancient times to the present, which has given birth to the ultimate pursuit of quality of life by Chengdu people. In 2023, the 31st Summer Universiade will be held in Chengdu, and Xu Liaoyuan and his team will become the designers of the Universiade torch "Ronghuo". The design of the torch should reflect the image connotation, cultural connotation and urban cultural context, so as to form a comprehensive culture to the meaning and continuously enhance the world's cultural exchanges. Xu Liaoyuan talked about the thinking of torch design on the spot, from the pen design to the release of the plan, more than 400 days to change the plan, and finally presented it perfectly. He said, "We want to let the world see in our design, a youthful China, a far-sighted China." In the final design plan, we captured the iconic elements of the 'Land of Abundance' culture, such as the giant panda and the sun god bird, and reflected a sense of contemporary and futuristic on this basis. ”
Xu Liaoyuan is not only the designer of the torch "Ronghuo", but also the torchbearer of the Universiade.
