During the construction of the open-pit coal mine in the Huolinhe mining area of Inner Mongolia, there is a history worth remembering, that is, the historical stage in which the 44th detachment of the infrastructure engineering corps participated in the construction from 1978 to 1981. In order to look back on the past, remember the history, tell the story of Huolinhe's entrepreneurship, and inherit the entrepreneurial spirit of Huolinhe, Zheng Yanfei, Zhao Lijuan, Tang Zhongfu and other comrades-in-arms of the 44th detachment of the former infrastructure engineering corps launched the activity of "listening to veterans tell the story of Huolinhe's entrepreneurship" to restore the passionate years for us, and let us feel those moving stories and historical events together.

The Huolin Henan open-pit coal mine is the first modern open-pit coal mine designed and built by the mainland itself. It should be said that the first shovel of stripping earthwork in the South Open-pit Coal Mine was broken by the 44th Regiment of the 431st Detachment. At that time, the mining process mainly included two parts: soil and rock stripping and coal mining, soil and rock stripping using a single bucket excavator-dump workshop breaking process, and coal mining using a single bucket excavator-dump truck-crusher-belt conveyor semi-continuous process. The main large-scale equipment is imported from the United States, the former Federal Republic of Germany, Sweden, Japan, Finland and other countries.

I was conscripted into the army in March 1978 from Pinggang Commune, Dongliao County, Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province. After more than four months of recruit training in Tongliao, he came to the Huolinhe mining area in September of that year. I was assigned to the 7th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 431st Regiment of the 44th Detachment of the Infrastructure Engineering Corps, which was a newly formed automobile transport company, and the cadres and soldiers of the whole company came from all over the motherland, including the "workers to soldiers" from Fushun and other places and a group of veterans who had recently been demobilized, a group of cadres and soldiers transferred from other detachments of the infrastructure engineering corps, and then these conscripts who had just finished our training for recruits, and there were more than 200 cadres and soldiers in the whole company.

In May 1980, I participated in a four-month training course for automobiles (75B carts) and excavators (RH-75 excavators) held by the 44th detachment at the Zalut Banner Transfer Station, the main purpose of this training is to continuously improve the theoretical knowledge level and management and maintenance level of equipment operation, maintenance, and management personnel, and reserve the backbone force for large-scale equipment management and maintenance in the future. The training course has five courses: hydraulics, electrician, drawing, professional courses and engines, and the teachers are professors and lecturers hired from Sichuan Institute of Mining and Technology (formerly Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology) to teach the trainees.

As a maintenance worker, it is very important for me to participate in this training and learn theoretical knowledge to better and accurately overhaul the equipment in the future. I am a high school graduate, because I often study engineering and agriculture when I go to school, the knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry has long been thrown out of the clouds, at first I really don't understand the courses taught by the teachers of the School of Mining, especially the various formulas are reversed, which makes me dazzled and difficult to learn.

For this reason, in the process of learning, I concentrated on listening to the lectures, did not dare to have the slightest relaxation, actively asked the teacher for advice on the questions I did not understand, and took the method of watching more, listening more and learning more, carefully taking class notes, and reviewing carefully after class to ensure that every class and every knowledge point was understood. After the teacher's patient and meticulous explanation, I gradually found the "doorway" from a person who was very unfamiliar with large-scale equipment, and felt that I had a preliminary understanding of large-scale equipment, and at the same time, I also had a strong interest in learning all aspects of large-scale equipment. After more than 4 months of hard work, I, like everyone else, completed all the courses, and finally obtained the certificate of completion of the automobile and excavator issued by the training course.

After returning to the Huolin River mining area after the training, I was reassigned to the 431st Regiment's 3rd Battalion Auto Repair Company as a large transport equipment maintenance worker. At that time, the large transportation equipment we were overhauling was a 68-ton 75B dump truck imported from the United States, which is often referred to as a "big truck".

Due to the limited conditions at that time, the maintenance work was carried out outdoors, exposed to the wind and sun, and the wind and snow were blowing. We overcame the difficulties of not having a fixed maintenance plant at the beginning, and stuck to the maintenance position with the fine tradition of soldiers daring to fight tough battles and the belief that they were not afraid of hardships, and overcame one maintenance difficulty after another.

Overhaul work is a very hard job, especially in the early days of mine construction. People who have participated in the overhaul know that the 75B car mainly uses hydraulic oil, engine oil, diesel and lubricating oil and other oils, no matter which part of the maintenance, the maintenance workers have to deal with the oil every day, at that time there was no oil-proof overalls, more often it is still in the unobstructed production site operation, some "foreign equipment" is also "unsuitable", and there are more "deaths" in operation. Because the work clothes are worn on the body with a lot of oil stains, underwear and underwear are often eroded by oil and sweat stains to produce an unpleasant smell; sometimes a relatively abstract "oil embroidery" pattern will appear on the arm accidentally, very much like a "tattoo"; especially the work shoes worn on the feet, also because of the erosion of oil into two "crooked boats", the appearance is very ugly; especially when replacing the hydraulic oil tank, washing the "oil shower" is a thing that maintenance workers often encounter in the maintenance equipment, I have encountered many times, and I am covered with oil. It should be said that maintenance workers are more difficult in the various types of work in open-pit coal mines.

The most terrible thing is to go to the dump in the winter to deal with the failure of the truck. Due to the high terrain of the dumping site and the fact that there are no buildings around to block the wind, the wind is very hard, and the white hair wind blows on the face as painful as a knife, even if you wear a fur coat and big shoes, you can't withstand the cold weather in the alpine area. I remember once in the east dump to deal with a 75B car automatic shutdown fault, we several maintenance workers sat on the maintenance car and the air pump truck directly to the fault site, after a brief communication with the driver immediately began to deal with the fault, first of all, the diesel tank oil cap to see if the diesel has the phenomenon of "hanging wax", followed by to check whether the oil circuit from the diesel tank to the PT pump has oil leakage, air leakage, and then check whether the vehicle circuit is normal power supply and so on.

After removing the oil pipe and carefully inspecting, it was found that the reason for the automatic shutdown of the cart was that there was a small ice cube in the oil pipe to block the oil circuit or intermittent oil supply. As soon as one of my hands was withdrawn from the drain hole, a piece of skin was peeled off my finger, and it was a heart-piercing pain. When inflating the oil pipe, the air pressure given by the air pump of the air pump is large and small, and when the air pressure is large, the diesel will be sprayed out from the oil drain hole of the PT pump, and the diesel fuel sprayed out of the upper body, I endured the pain in my hands and insisted on tightening the screw of the oil drain hole of the PT pump, and finally returned the equipment to normal. When I saw the roar of the cart leaving the fault site to continue the operation, I felt very relieved.

In June 1981, after the abolition of the army, I also left the familiar maintenance post and the maintenance masters who got along day and night, and embarked on a new job. After decades, whenever I think of this past, my mood is always not calm for a long time, and the scene of participating in the maintenance with my comrades in the wind and snow often comes to mind, and everyone's spirit of defying difficulties and obstacles has always inspired me and inspired me.
