After the failure of the national anti-Yuan campaign, there was a white terror everywhere. Sun Yat-sen, Huang Xing, Chen Qimei, and others were detained under the title of "chaotic party" and strictly ordered to be wanted, so they had no choice but to flee to Japan again, and some other important anti-Yuan figures also became the targets of Yuan Shikai's arrest.
Due to Chen Guofu's performance in the "Second Revolution", his actions have also attracted the attention of Detective Yuan Shikai, so he must be extremely careful.
Once, Chen Guofu went out on a mission and found that an acquaintance was reluctant to follow him, this person was originally a classmate of Lu Zhong, and later took refuge in Yuan Shikai and acted as a detective.
Of course, Chen Guofu didn't know that this person was a detective at this time, but he just felt that this person was sneaky, very suspicious, and careless, so he immediately made a decision to get rid of this person's tracking.
At this time, a tram happened to come, and he hurriedly jumped on it, and when the tram had gone a certain distance, he jumped down again, so that he finally escaped the detective's tracking and got out of danger.
At this time, Chen Qimei had already gone to Japan with Sun Yat-sen and continued to persist in the struggle, "Since the eastward crossing, I have conspired day and night, not to be ashamed of being ugly, but to be the result of hard work."
After assisting Sun Yat-sen in forming the Chinese Revolutionary Party, he returned to China from Japan in 1915 and set off an even greater anti-Yuan upsurge, starting with the movement of naval personnel. In this way, Chen Guofu and the second uncle met again.
Under Chen Qimei's main alliance and introduced by Zhou Yanyou, Chen Guofu officially joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party, and after that, he was ordered to be responsible for liaison and communication work.
The operation to plan this naval uprising did not go smoothly from the very beginning, and the two warships "Zhaohe" and "Yingrui," which had already been anchored in the Huangpu River, had already moved quite maturely, and everything was ready, just waiting for an order.

However, Yuan Shikai seemed to have heard some rumors, and suddenly decided to transfer the "Zhaohe" and "Yingrui" ships out of Shanghai. However, Chen Qimei did not want the boiled duck to fly away, and temporarily decided to revolt in advance, on December 5.
According to Chen Guofu's recollection:
At that time, I was in charge of liaison and internal copying. The bulletin of the "Zhaohe" and the notice of the incident on land were part of the copy I was responsible for.
After the order was issued, everyone waited for news in Yuyang. Suddenly, Sun Xiangfu came back to report that half of the soldiers had already boarded the boat, and half of them were patrolling and interfering and could not go up, so he asked for instructions.
The second uncle was in the position of commander-in-chief at this time, and asked me and Zhou Yanyou to go with Sun Xiangfu, gather the department, try to get on the ship, and be sure to achieve the task.
When we went to Sun's apartment, we learned that because of Sun's lack of discipline, those who did not get on the boat scattered one after another, and some of them bathed nearby.
When the "Zhaohe" ship was being assembled, the first gun of the "Zhaohe" ship had been fired, and Sun was anxious and angry, and he wanted to commit suicide. Comrade Zhou and I tried our best to dissuade them and reported them to the commander-in-chief.
The commander-in-chief was about to set off, and before he left, he ordered me and Comrade Zhou to assist, but the task still had to be accomplished. However, although we tried in many ways, first, because of martial law on the river, we were unable to move easily, and second, because it was not easy to rent a ship for a week, so we could not board the "Yingrui" ship. had to order Sun to gather all the personnel to wait in the apartment, and report to the commander-in-chief at the same time.
At this time, the Commander-in-Chief and the Chief of Staff, Mr. Chiang, personally went to Nanshi to supervise the battle, because because our land attack troops could not occupy the police station and other destinations, so we returned to the French Concession by boat by water, and arrived at the apartment at No. 5 Yuyang Lane at about 11 o'clock.
At this time, Chen Qimei, Chiang Kai-shek, Shao Yuanchong, Yang Cangbai, Wu Liqing, and others were holding a meeting upstairs, because it had entered a harsh winter, the north wind was howling outside, and the weather was extremely cold, and the comrades at the meeting were so cold that they stomped their feet straight, so Chen Guofu went downstairs to prepare to light a fire to keep warm.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, and he opened it, only to see five fierce patrolmen standing outside the door, all of whom pointed their pistols to his chest, and forbade him to move.
Chen Guofu thought that the revolutionaries who were holding a meeting upstairs had to hold off the patrol and not let them rush upstairs, so he was in a hurry and made all kinds of noises, such as "shaking the window, making a noise in the door, and making a few noises by hooking down the chair with his feet to attract the attention of the upstairs."
When he was in a hurry, another revolutionary, Yu Jianguang, came in through the front door, and Chen Guofu waved his hand, but in order to detect the patrol, that is, two patrols chased after the front door, and the people in the meeting upstairs heard a different voice, and saw the patrol chasing and arresting people, so they all fled across the house, and then went upstairs to search, and all the people in the meeting fled, and the patrol was empty, and there was nothing.
Therefore, they locked Chen Guofu in the pavilion behind the house, and Chen Guofu saw that the patrol only buckled the door but not the window, and after the patrol went out, he jumped out of the window door to avoid the suffering of the prison.
At this time, the officers and men on the "Zhaohe" ship did not know the situation outside, but still acted according to the predetermined plan, and the cannons with their heads raised were stripped of their gun jackets, and bursts of fiery snakes were spat out in the direction of the manufacturing bureau.
Chen Qimei and other revolutionaries thought that they had captured the "Zhaohe" ship, so they ordered the urban area to launch an uprising in response to the Zhaohe ship, so they rebelled one after another by land.
In the afternoon, the uprising was still going on. In order to facilitate the command, Chen Guofu took the risk of coming out of the concession with his second uncle Chen Qimei and staff officer Wu Zhongxin and returning to the Chinese realm.
However, at this time, the rebel armies from all walks of life in the city failed, and the enemy deployed military police everywhere to prepare to arrest the revolutionaries, and Chen Qimei and others had to retreat to their apartments. And No. 5 Yuyangli has been cracked by the enemy, Chen Guofu saw from a distance that there were living people around the residence, knew that the situation had changed, and hurriedly fled with Chen Qimei and others.
As a result of the destruction of the command centre, communication between the parties has been severed, making it difficult to conduct military operations. Chen Qimei resolutely decided to hire a small boat, board the "Zhaohe" ship, and then rely on the advantage of warships to fight the bloody road and occupy other ports as a base in order to make a comeback.
Considering that there was no food, grass, and fuel on the ship, Chen Guofu was sent to take charge of the procurement and transport the goods on the ship.
After accepting the task, Chen Guofu immediately sent people to the city to purchase goods, and he himself went to the river to hire a small boat to transport the goods, and he quickly hired a boat and waited at the designated place.
However, the people who procured the goods did not arrive for a long time, and after waiting for two or three hours, there was still no one. Chen Guofu couldn't, so he had to return.

At this time, the "Zhaohe" was already in a situation of fighting alone. Because Yuan Shikai sent the Songhu Protector to make Yang Shan bribe the officers and men of the "Yingrui" ship with a large amount of money, the "Yingrui" betrayed the revolutionaries and coordinated with the "Tongji" ship to carry out a flanking attack on the "Zhaohe" ship.
Yang Hu and others of the revolutionary party who commanded the "Zhaohe" ship thought that the "Ying Rui" was their own and had no intention of being guarded; when "Ying Rui" fired several shots at the "Zhaohe," Yang Hu and the others woke up like a dream and hurriedly responded to the battle.
As a result, numerous officers and men were killed and wounded, and the ship's gas furnace was also hit by shells, and the gas furnace exploded, causing many comrades to be killed and wounded. Yang Hu and the others saw that the general trend had gone, so they pretended to swim and fled.
The enemy soon occupied the "Zhaohe" ship, and the escaped personnel were not allowed to do their duty. At this point, this vigorous war against Yuan ended in defeat.
Although the Zhaohe Uprising failed, the heroic souls of the martyrs were not extinguished, and their indomitable fighting spirit has always inspired future generations to forge ahead forever, which is of great significance.
As Shao Yuanchong, an important leader of the Kuomintang, later summed up:
The uprising "affected not only the whole country, but the world." In China, it can break Yuan Shikai's dream of omnipotence by force and promote the consciousness of ordinary people. Internationally, we can expose Yuan Shikai's deceptive propaganda and correct the mistake that Yuan Shikai's military forces can suppress the whole country.
At the same time, among the Party, the positive courage of all comrades has been re-encouraged, and preparations for various difficulties have been made everywhere. Therefore, soon after the Yunnan uprising, all provinces were able to respond quickly, and finally overthrew Yuan Shikai's imperial system, which was a great success later, and it cannot but be said that because of the Zhaohe Campaign, the effect of spreading the seeds of the first great trouble."
And the various works done by Chen Guofu in Zhaohe Righteousness cannot be buried. He saw with his own eyes the tenacious fighting spirit of the revolutionaries who rose again and again and never gave up, and he could not forget the words of his second uncle Chen Qimei, who encouraged his comrades on the day of the failure of the Zhaohe Uprising:
"In the revolutionary cause, we should not be afraid of failure, we should review the gains and losses, and start again in time, and there will be a day of success. Revolutionaries must not be depressed, and if they are depressed, they will never succeed. Therefore, we must continue to be active in the future, and the success of the revolution is only a matter of time. ”
Thinking of these, Chen Guofu seems to understand more social and life meanings.
Chen Qimei begged Yuan several times, and was repeatedly defeated, and his indomitable will made Yuan Shikai both afraid and hateful, and he wanted to get rid of him quickly.
Through his henchmen, Yuan Thief bought off a traitor to the Kuomintang, Li Haiqiu, in Shanghai for a huge sum of money. Li Haiqiu found out that Chen Qimei's economy was very poor, and he wanted to raise funds to start an incident, but he had no choice. As a result, Li Haiqiu sent people to organize a Hongfeng Coal Mining Company.

He found Chen Qimei and said that Hongfeng Company had a piece of mining land and was ready to borrow money from Japan, and if he could introduce him to sign a contract, he could help him with 40% of the revolutionary military expenses if the loan was successful in the future. Chen Qimei was overjoyed when she heard this, and immediately agreed to meet with the manager of Hongfeng Company.
On May 18, Li Haiqiu and five others came to Chen Qimei's apartment at No. 14 Saposai Road, and Chen was very happy and entertained them in the living room. After a while, Li Haiqiu said that he forgot to bring the contract draft, got up and went out to get it, and Chen Qimei continued to talk with the other four people in the living room.
At this time, "two murderers suddenly broke into outside, pulled out their pistols and shot at him, and were shot several times in the head, and they were immediately exhausted." By the time Chen Guofu and others heard the news, Chen Qimei had been dead for about an hour, and the generation of heroes who founded the Republic of China passed away.
Chen Guofu lost his relatives and mentor, and not only did he hesitate on the revolutionary road, with no one to guide him, but even his livelihood was difficult.
He couldn't stay in Shanghai anymore, and he didn't want to stay in a treacherous place. He felt that the road ahead was bleak and unpredictable. The cruel reality was like a basin of cold water to extinguish the fire of his ideals, and he couldn't help but sigh that "the mountain is difficult to cross, who is sad and lost".
He wanted to find a safe haven away from the whirlpool of revolution and politics, so he packed his bags and staggered back to his hometown of Huzhou.
Chen Guofu's military career ended, and so did the most glorious period of his life. He is still quite nostalgic for this unusual military life.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, in a speech to young people, he recalled with great regret:
"I'm ashamed that I'm not in good health and I'm outdated. I very much hope that my body will fully recover, and that I will resume my military life, and that I will enthusiastically participate in this great war of resistance like ordinary young people now. ”
He attributed his backwardness to poor health, but in fact, his hesitation in his thoughts and his lack of firmness in his will were the main factors.
