A few days ago, the dust settled on the election of the leader of the Taiwan region, and Democratic Progressive Party candidate Lai Qingde won the election. Regarding this result, the outside world generally believes that Lai Qingde has become the "talker" of the Taiwan authorities, which will make the situation in the Taiwan Strait dangerous for military and war, because this person is a "pragmatic Taiwan independence worker" and has also been identified as a "troublemaker" by both Chinese mainland and the United States. After Lai Qingde's election, a large number of foreign investors accelerated their flight from Taiwan, and the island's domestic stocks and Huishuang market fell sharply for several days, which highlighted the worries of the outside world.
On the day of Lai's victory, US President Joe Biden publicly stated that the US side adheres to the one-China policy and does not support "Taiwan independence". As a matter of fact, long before the election on the island, the United States issued successive warnings to Lai Ching-te, urging him to curb the "Taiwan independence" tendency. In December last year, three former senior US State Department officials published an article calling on Lai Ching-te to "freeze" Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party's "Taiwan independence" program and to assure the mainland that it would not engage in "Taiwan independence." After Lai's victory, Wei Dening, the former China director of the US National Security Council, said that the Biden administration did not want to see a "crisis in the Taiwan Strait" and had issued a warning to Lai Qingde and others, asking them not to "cause new problems".
The United States warned Lai Qingde that it was not because they "sprouted goodwill," but that it was in their best interest for the two sides of the strait to maintain a situation of "no force, no independence, and no reunification." The United States has always regarded the "Taiwan card" as the "most powerful strategic tool" to contain China, and will certainly not give up the strategy of "using Taiwan to contain China." However, the United States is very uneasy about Lai Qingde, and knows very well that after this person comes to power, his actions in cross-strait affairs will certainly be more radical than Tsai Ing-wen's, and this will cause the mainland to quickly enter a state of "forced reunification." For this reason, the United States has repeatedly issued warnings to Lai Ching-te, urging him not to act rashly and recklessly, and to delay the reunification of the two sides of the strait as much as possible.
However, judging from Lai Ching-te's statement, even if the United States, which supports Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, issues a warning, he will still follow the "Taiwan independence" line. After winning the election, although Lai Qingde called on the mainland to resume cross-strait dialogue, he threw out two conditions, saying that contacts would be carried out on the basis of "reciprocity" and "democracy." Obviously, Lai Ching-te is also vainly trying to establish the "international status" of the Taiwan authorities, and has gone so far as to use cross-strait dialogue as a threat to demand that the mainland agree to the so-called "reciprocal" demand. It can be seen that Lai Qingde's true character of "Taiwan independence" has been deeply rooted in his bone marrow, and he does not have a clear understanding of the cross-strait strength comparison. In response to this, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council directly responded that the two sides of the strait must base their dialogue on the "consensus of '92," otherwise there will be no way to talk about it! The mainland's response is to tell Lai Qingde that it is delusional to ask for "international status" through dialogue!
Ironically, after the mainland made its position clear, the DPP authorities in Taiwan made a "summing up" and actually held that the pressure they had put on them was "insufficient" and that they did not let the mainland "agree to the conditions." Therefore, Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have threatened to let the mainland know that realizing cross-strait reunification "will pay a huge price." Yao Jin-hsiang, Taiwan's so-called "representative to the United Kingdom," made a big deal of nonsense, saying that Taiwan is strengthening its own defense forces and ensuring that the mainland will understand that "it will pay a huge price for taking Taiwan by force" and thus "give up taking Taiwan." Taiwan's "Taipei Scripture Office in the United States" also published an article claiming that it would unite with the United States to maintain the so-called "status quo" in the Taiwan Strait. The so-called "representative to the United States" of the Taiwan authorities even falsely claimed that if the mainland "promotes cross-strait reunification, it will certainly be spurned by the people on the island." It can be seen that Lai Qingde is still fantasizing about cooperating with the United States and the West to carry out so-called "collective intimidation" against the mainland, so as to achieve the goal of "Taiwan independence."
At the same time, Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have also set up a so-called "cognitive warfare research center" to monitor social media on the island, claiming to eliminate all "false information" about Taiwan's defense, foreign affairs, people's livelihood, internal affairs, and cross-strait relations. Obviously, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wants to strengthen the "information cocoon" that has been built over the years, and define all information that is unfavorable to itself as so-called "false information". IN ADDITION, THE TAIWAN AUTHORITIES HAVE ALSO CHARACTERIZED TIKTOK, WHICH PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE ISLAND'S ELECTIONS, AS A SO-CALLED "OVERSEAS COGNITIVE WARFARE PLATFORM" IN A VAIN ATTEMPT TO ERASE THE TRANSPARENCY OF INFORMATION IN THE TAIWAN REGION. In this regard, the mainland took the initiative and announced that it would expand the content of the termination of the ECFA to benefit Taiwan. The mainland official media even released a signal, saying that it would consider a complete termination of the ECFA in the future. It can be seen that the mainland's initiative in cross-strait affairs is getting stronger and stronger, and no matter what provocations the Taiwan authorities make, they will not have any impact on the mainland's decision-making. This is because the mainland's hopes for promoting cross-strait reunification on the island have already been placed on the Taiwan compatriots, and it has no illusions about the political parties on the island.

According to Newsweek, Trump made it clear that if he returns to the White House, he will definitely not "defend Taiwan". Trump also said that the United States would not send troops to intervene if Chinese mainland took Taiwan by force. Trump also said that Taiwan, which has 90% of the world's chip manufacturing capacity, "steals the voice of the United States" and will never send troops to "defend Taiwan." Trump's remarks shattered the illusions of the "Taiwan independence" elements on the island. Lai Qingde and others originally dreamed of "leaning on the United States to seek independence," and they felt that by getting closer to their "relations" with the United States, they would be able to sit back and relax. However, the United States only has its own interests in its eyes, and when Lai Qingde insists on pursuing the "Taiwan independence" line and harms the interests of the United States, he will naturally be abandoned.
The Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, and foreign forces must not interfere; this is the attitude of Chinese mainland all along. The United States has also repeatedly expressed its stance, stressing that it adheres to the one-China principle and does not support "Taiwan independence." As for the United States sending troops to "defend Taiwan," it is even more impossible. Although the Pentagon's generals have shouted that they want to "confront" China, they have turned around and tried their best to seek Sino-US military talks and install "guardrails" for the two countries. After all, the United States is well aware that the consequences of a conflict with China are not something it can bear!
