Zheng Jinyan self-report
In 1984, I was admitted to the Painting Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in oil painting. Through 4 years of professional study, I have gained a lot. The teachers are very open-minded and advanced in terms of teaching concepts and teaching concepts, giving us a lot of space and freedom. At that time, the head of the painting department was Mr. Huo Chunyang, and at that time, Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, and sculpture majors were all taught together, so we had a certain amount of knowledge and research on these art categories, and this teaching form really benefited me a lot.
After graduating in 1988, I stayed on to teach, first in the Department of Education, and then in 2002 in the Department of Oil Painting. Mr. Zhang Shifan, who was the dean of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts at that time, had a great influence on me, and he seized the opportunity with an open mind, which played a positive role in promoting the teaching work of the Department of Oil Painting, the whole school, and academic activities.
Mr. Zhang has a bold personality, a broad vision, and is very bold and courageous, and he is a person who does his work wholeheartedly and selflessly. My deepest impression of him was that in 1996, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, the exhibition of works of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts was held at the National Art Museum of China, which had a great repercussion across the country.
During Mr. Zhang's tenure as dean, it was a critical period for the school to create and explore, especially in the field of oil painting, artists in Tianjin had to face all kinds of new and old problems in their own fields, as well as fierce competition in many related fields. In addition to being an educator, Mr. Zhang is also a very good art practitioner, because long before the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts officially changed its name, he was already a famous artist with national influence in the field of oil painting.
It was under his leadership that the teaching philosophy of the Oil Painting Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts was comprehensively updated and improved, and the teaching at that time was not limited to classical realism, but also compatible with artistry, and the study of oil painting and oriental imagery oil painting was more in-depth. Diversified, inclusive, and focused on creative development, the Department of Oil Painting of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts has always adhered to this teaching philosophy, which continues to this day.
Although I studied oil painting, I also like Chinese painting, and I want to explore some themes and expressions from it to enrich my artistic creation. When I graduated, neoclassicism was the main art school at that time, but then I decided that it didn't exactly match the direction of my creation, so I wanted to rediscover an artistic path that suited me. In 2001, I experimented with the themes of Bada Shanren and Shi Tao. In order to interpret the spirit of oriental aesthetics and paint works with Chinese style, I use the expression form of oil painting and Chinese painting to pursue a simple, ethereal, distant and profound artistic realm.
Through my works, I hope to explore the perfect fusion of traditional Chinese spirituality and oil painting characteristics, so as to express a higher level of artistic effect. Although I am still immature, I have found a new direction of creation. In terms of teaching, I encourage students to lay a solid foundation, broaden their horizons, and have a certain degree of involvement in all modeling disciplines, whether it is oil painting, printmaking or other majors. In the process of studying, they must pay attention to personal cultivation and read more books, whether it is art, literature or philosophy books, although they may not play a direct role in their painting creation at a certain stage, but will determine the height of their future artistic path. We must always love art, stick to our ideals and beliefs, and bravely pursue our dreams.
"Willing to educate talents for children, diligent and careful tailoring", my alma mater has given me a solid basic knowledge and valuable spiritual wealth, I will live up to high expectations and pass on the torch!
