According to a court report on January 23, Liren Chen, a Chinese engineer at Google who was charged with murdering his wife last week, admitted to beating his wife, Xuanyi Yu, with her fist to death at their home in Santa Clara, according to a court document.

According to a previous report by Red Star News, prosecutors had revealed that the police rushed to the scene after receiving a report from a neighbor and found Liren Chen "kneeling on the ground motionless, with her hands in the air and her eyes blank." After police entered the home and detained Chen, Xuanyi Yu's body was found on the bedroom floor with severe blunt force injuries to the head. The floor, walls, and doors of the room were splattered with blood.

Investigators arrived at the scene and noticed that the suspect, Liren Chen, was "extremely swollen and purple" in his right hand, with blood stains on his clothes, legs, arms and hands, according to police records. When investigators asked the 27-year-old how he had injured his hand, he replied, "I hit my wife" and told them it happened "yesterday." No weapons were found at the scene, but the investigators who wrote the report said Liren Chen apparently killed his wife with his bare hands, "hitting her repeatedly on the head."

According to reports, Liren Chen was initially taken to hospital for treatment and remains in custody pending her appearance in court for arraignment on Wednesday (January 24). According to a report by Southern Metropolis Daily on January 21, Liren Chen, a Chinese male engineer at Google, who was involved in the case, has been transferred to prison from the hospital where he was previously located.

Jenny Powell, a 43-year-old neighbor who lives next door to the two, said she was "shocked" by what had happened. She said Chen and his wife have been living here with a cat named Cooper since last April, and they seemed friendly and gave her cookies and a card when they moved in. However, the couple spent most of their time socially out of contact with each other.

"They haven't been here for a long time, and they haven't talked to a lot of people. Powell said. She added that after the incident, her son asked, "Do you mean the people next door who are closed?"

Another neighbor, Selivia Atodo, had seen the couple walk through the neighborhood several times and "they looked friendly and nothing out of the ordinary." She also said that the neighbors here are very close and gossip, and if there is an argument in the neighbor's house, the people around them will discuss it. "But there was nothing (problems) before the incident, and that's what completely shocked the neighbors. ”
