Art master Yu Xining

Wang article

Mr. Yu Xining is an outstanding contemporary artist and art educator in mainland China, and a scholar-type artist with comprehensive cultivation in poetry, calligraphy, painting, printing, and art history, which is rare in the contemporary Chinese painting world.

Mr. Yu Xining was born in Weixian County, Qilu culture, and grew up in the rich influence of traditional Chinese culture, the fertile soil of Chinese culture nourished his gentle and elegant gentleman's personality, his broad mind, and the artistic idea of "relying on the soul of the country to write and ink, painting the soul in the depths of the soul", which gave birth to his tenacity, perseverance, stubbornness and self-improvement character quality. Mr. Yu Xining has the cultural literacy of the past and the present, and every grass, tree, flower and tree has become the externalization and expression of his personality in his writing. Noble spiritual sentiments, exquisite painting skills and rich cultural accumulation make his works have fresh vitality and strong appeal, which directly reflects Mr. Yu Xining's artistic achievements, but also represents the spirit and spirit of an era.

With years of diligence and hard work, he has become an erudite and versatile scholar-type artist. As far as painting is concerned, Mr. Yu Xining is also a generalist. At the beginning of learning to paint, he was all over the school, carefully copying the famous paintings of the past dynasties, regardless of the skills of flowers and birds, animals, landscapes, and figures, all of which were fully mastered when he was young. Later, he devoted himself to specializing in flowers, from the classic masterpieces of the Tang and Song dynasties to Yun Nantian, Hua Xinluo, Chen Baiyang, and Xu Qingteng, all of whom worked hard to study. When he was studying in Shanghai, he was guided by famous teachers such as Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, Zhu Wenyun, and Yu Jianhua, laying a solid foundation for his future development. He inherited the creative spirit of his predecessors, fused the strengths of a hundred schools, and embarked on a painting road with profound traditional cultural heritage.

Mr. Yu Xining's works have profound traditional skills, showing elegance in vigor and elegance in sparseness, and the pen and ink are exquisite and rich in connotation. The paintings of Lingxiao and wisteria, the pen walks the dragon and snake, and the momentum is overwhelming. The peony and peony have the cause of the wind and dew. The fruits and vegetables in his pen are fresh and tender, and the breath of life is particularly strong. In particular, his plum blossoms are often the whole plum tree towering and majestic, and the pen and ink are extraordinary. In 1989, he published a monograph "On Painting Plum Blossoms", in which he described in detail the development of plum painting, the famous artists and works of plum painting in the past dynasties, and then systematically sorted out and summarized the techniques of plum painting. During this period, the interpretation of the spiritual temperament of plum blossoms and the interpretation of the artistic conception of the picture are all new.

Mr. Yu Xining's calligraphy, since he was a child, has been influenced by his parents, loves Linchi, and has not tasted a little slack. He has studied Wang Youjun, Yan Zhenqing, Huang Valley, etc., the pen work is stable and round, the gesture is open, the dot painting is flying, majestic and steep, and he has won the wind god of "Crane Ming" and "Songfeng Pavilion". He also integrated the calligraphy into his paintings, which were elegant, vigorous, and vigorous. The rich and subtle expressiveness of his brushwork movement is due to his many years of understanding of the grass and seals. His attainments in calligraphy and the practice of introducing calligraphy into painting show that he has a unique understanding of the cultural connotation of brush and ink and the language of artistic expression, which is his vivid and profound interpretation of the charm of Chinese art.

As a painter, Mr. Yu Xining attaches great importance to poetry, and his poems are often a necessary supplement to painting, "In this regard, I have benefited from seeking ideas, from ideas to creativity, enriching my soul, moving my imagination wonderfully, from breaking through the ideas of the predecessors to breaking through my own ideas, poetry has given me a lot of favors", he explained. Poetry is a necessity in life, so he often sings it, and has formed a poetry club to meet friends, influencing a group of young poetry lovers to make efforts to promote Chinese culture. More than 300 poems, including inscription poems, travelogue poems, etc., are collected in "Yu Xining Poetry Grass", which mostly observes the scenery with a unique vision and sings with the poet's feelings. He inscribed poems and paintings, lyrical freehand, and sent his words and aspirations, and the poems and paintings achieved a perfect unity.

In terms of seal carving, Mr. Chen's early years of learning seals benefited from the "Ten Bells of the Mountain House Seal" by the townsman Chen Jieqi, and won the true biography of Wu Changshuo's disciple Zhu Lesan. During his studies, he selected more than 500 stones such as Changhua, Qingtian and Shoushan, worked tirelessly day and night, and conducted extensive research on the ancient seals of the Qin Dynasty and the private seals of Han officials. The seal of the rule, the knife skill, simple and generous, straight after the Qin and Han dynasties, has been affirmed by many seal scholars. Mr. Yu Xining has successively for Huang Binhong, Li Keran, Wu Zuoren, Ye Qianyu, Huang Yongyu and other people to manage the seal, "Huang Binhong Tibetan Qin and Han Seal Collection" is his own hand to extend Mr. Binhong's collection of Qin seal Han seal 58 squares, has become an important information for the study of seal carving and the discussion of ancient characters in the field of seal research.

As a scholar, you must not only have the creative spirit and professional skills that are commendable, but also have the mind and spirit of setting an example for society. Mr. is strict with himself and lenient with others, attaches great importance to both the work inside the painting and the cultivation outside the painting, and believes that the character is above the painting. He integrates the cultural spirit of the Chinese nation, the miraculous spirit of the great creation, and the spiritual idea of the painter, that is, "talent, virtue and diligence, and the three souls are one heart", so that the soul of painting, the soul of people, and the soul of the country are integrated, and the works of art become the carrier of shaping and promoting the beauty of the spiritual temperament of the Chinese nation. His plum blossoms are full of old branches, full of business, and have a high-spirited and unfailing power, which is a concentrated presentation of the national temperament he experienced, and also a pictorial expression of the style, backbone, interest and personality of a scholar-type painter.

Mr. Yu Xining also has deep research in the history, theory and theory of painting. From 1955 to 1958, he studied Chinese art history with Mr. Yu Jianhua, drawing nourishment from traditional culture. He inspected the provinces of Shanxi, Henan, Shanxi, and Gansu, and made in-depth research on grottoes, sculptures, architecture, stone carvings, and murals, and wrote professional treatises such as "The Art of Relief Rubbing in the Grottoes of the Northern Wei Dynasty", "Dunhuang Investigation Report", "Yongle Palace Mixed Hall Yuan Dynasty Mural Investigation Report", "Preliminary Study on the Evolution of Yin and Zhou Dynasty Bronze Patterns", etc., which provided valuable materials for the study of painting in New China. During the 30 years from 1977 to 2007, Mr. Yu Xining worked tirelessly to hold art exhibitions and lectures in various parts of the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Canada, the United States and other places, and successively wrote a variety of works such as "On Painting Plum", "Yu Xining's Poetry and Grass", "Huang Binhong's Collection of Qin and Han Seals", as well as more than a dozen professional papers such as "Starting from the Brush of Chinese Painting" and "Dialectics in Composition", as well as "Yu Xining's Painting Collection", "Freehand Painting Flowers", "Peony Painting", "Yu Xining's Paintings" and "Yu Xining's Selected Paintings" and dozens of teaching albums and large-scale professional picture books, and have done many beneficial things in teaching, research and artistic creation.

From 1936 to 1949, Mr. Yu Xining taught at the Shanghai Qifeng Chinese Painting Correspondence School and the Agricultural College of Shandong University. Since 1950, he has successively served as associate professor and director of the Art Department of Shandong Normal University, associate professor and vice president of Shandong Art College, president of Shandong Art School, professor, vice president and honorary dean of Shandong Art College. He has been teaching for 70 years, forgetting to sleep and eating, teaching people tirelessly, and devoting himself to the cause of art education. As Mr. himself said: "The art garden has been cultivated for dozens of springs, and I am glad to see that the peaches and plums have been fragrant; Mr. Yu Xining elevated "Hong, Covenant, Depth, and Beauty" to educational ideas and teaching methods, learned from others as "Hong", learned and refined for "Covenant", studied and improved as "Deep", and ambitious as "Beauty", and took it as the teaching principle and method for cultivating artistic talents. Mr. Yu Xining has worked hard in the field of art education with his outstanding mind, knowledge and skills, and has cultivated a large number of outstanding art talents, who have made outstanding contributions to the cultural and artistic cause of the motherland.

This article was completed in 2013 and is the preface I wrote for Yu Xining's Art Research Essays. Why do we commemorate this great artist today? At the age of 74, Mr. Yu Xining made a "20-year work plan" and donated all his representative works to the country step by step. On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Mr. Xining's birth, he combed and studied Mr. Xining's lifelong painting style, painting thoughts, and educational thoughts, further excavated and sorted out the rich artistic heritage left by Mr. Xining, and carried forward the artistic spirit that Mr. Xining admired.
