The date of birth of Gabon international Guelor Kanga has recently been questioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), according to his passport information, he was born in Oyeem, Gabon, but his mother died in 1985.
Kanga, who currently plays for Serbian side Red Star Belgrade, has also been a regular in the squad, making 14 league appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
There is a controversy about the age of Kanga, which originated from a complaint from the Congolese Football Federation. In 2021, the Congolese Football Federation accused Gabon of falsifying his identity for Kanga, claiming that Kanga's real name was Kiaku Kiaku Kiangana, who was born on October 5, 1985 in Kinshasa, Congo. The Congolese side is convinced that Kanga's identity was forged when he joined Gabon's second tier team in his early years.
According to foreign media reports, Kanga will next meet with the Disciplinary Committee of the African Football Confederation to explain why he was born four years after his mother's death. If the Congolese Football Federation's allegations are true, both Kanga and the Gabonese Football Federation will face penalties.
Before the start of the 2018 Chinese Super League season, Serbian media reported that Kanga had become a target for a Chinese Super League club, and Russian Premier League teams Spartak Moscow and Kazan Ruby were also interested in Kanga at that time.
