Israeli Foreign Minister Katz confirmed in an interview with Israel's Channel 14 television on January 8 that Israel had assassinated Wissam Tawil, a senior commander of Lebanese Allah. Agence France-Presse reported, citing an unnamed security official of the Lebanese government, that Israeli forces attacked a car near the Lebanese-Israeli border that day, killing Wissam Tawil.
