On the same day, the 5-year-old Momo family of three wanted to make tea around the stove on a whim, so they set up a shelf on the iron charcoal stove, and Momo's mother also deliberately closed all the doors and windows of the big house, wanting to make the family members who did not wear coats in the house warmer.
5-year-old Mo Mo had been sitting by the stove playing with his tablet, but suddenly fainted and fell to the ground and convulsed. Parents also experience symptoms such as dizziness, headache, tinnitus, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. They quickly dialed the 120 emergency number and were rushed to the first phase of the headquarters of the First Hospital of Zhejiang University.
While the family of three was still being treated, 73-year-old Grandma Li (pseudonym) from Liangzhu, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, was also sent to the rescue, and her condition was even more critical. On December 26th, the family gathered in Grandma Li's house to drink tea and dispersed, Grandma Li added a few pieces of charcoal fire thinking that she could keep warm while it was hot, so she sealed the stove, closed the doors and windows and fell asleep, who knew that the next morning when the family came to see her, found that the old man was unconscious, not only vomit next to the bed, but also incontinence. After being sent to the First Hospital of Zhejiang University for rescue, the old man was diagnosed with "carbon monoxide toxic encephalopathy".
Some poisoned patients will seriously damage the brain after "false recovery".
"Don't underestimate the harm of carbon monoxide poisoning! We remind us every year that people still send people to rescue every year, and serious cases will be fatal, which is really distressing!" Yang Xiaofeng, chief physician of the director of the Emergency Trauma Center, said that from December 16, 2023 to January 1, 2024, 47 people who were "knocked down" by carbon monoxide were sent to one hospital in the first phase of the headquarters.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, non-irritating, lighter than air, and insoluble in water. When the carbon monoxide content reaches 0.04%~0.06%, it can poison people.
Director Yang Xiaofeng emphasized that carbon monoxide poisoning has a toxic effect on tissue cells throughout the body, and has great damage to the lungs, heart, brain and other organs of the human body, especially the cerebral cortex. In severe cases, consciousness is impaired, coma, and may even be life-threatening.
"It is especially worth emphasizing that carbon monoxide poisoning patients are not fine after waking up!" said Director Yang Xiaofeng, who said that if the poisoned patients are rescued in time, the vast majority of them can return to normal. However, after some severely poisoned patients return to consciousness, after a period of "false recovery", they may also experience a series of neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as daze, severe memory loss, unprovoked giggling or abnormal behavior, which is called "late-onset encephalopathy".
How to make tea around the stove scientifically and comfortably?
Zhang Yefei, deputy chief physician of the emergency trauma center, who participated in the rescue of many patients with carbon monoxide poisoning, said that the main tool for the treatment of acute carbon monoxide poisoning is hyperbaric oxygen, which has the best effect within 6 hours of onset.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy refers to the inhalation of pure oxygen in a high-pressure environment, and the use of more oxygen molecules to "snatch" the hemoglobin in the sick carboxyhemoglobin to re-form normal oxygenated hemoglobin and re-transport oxygen to the whole body, thereby correcting the state of cellular hypoxia.
In order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, attention should be paid to:
1. It is advisable to choose electric stoves and alcohol stoves as tea stoves indoors (the same for eating hot pot and barbecue); if you choose charcoal stoves and coal stoves, you must not use them in a closed room for a long time, and they should be placed in a ventilated hall or outdoors, and the coal should be burned out, and the charcoal fire should be completely extinguished when leaving.
2. When someone has symptoms such as headache, dizziness, tinnitus, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, etc., they should immediately think of the possibility of poisoning, and ventilate quickly, if there are medium to severe symptoms such as confusion and coma, they should immediately call the 120 emergency number and rush to the nearest hospital for hyperbaric oxygen therapy as soon as possible.
