Macao-based artist Yang Rong's solo exhibition "Inner Play" will be held in Shanghai from 6 January to 20 January 2024. The exhibition showcases more than 20 new works by artist Yang Rong, including oil paintings and color on paper, which integrate Eastern and Western elements, explore her unique artistic style, and explore the direction of the collision and integration of Eastern and Western art through the exhibition.
This exhibition is organized by Jinchen Yifeiming Art Museum, co-organized by the Australian Contemporary Art Association, and organized by Jieming Gallery.
Born in Shanghai, Nikki Yang, a post-80s contemporary artist in Macao, studied art at the School of Archaeology and Museums at Peking University, and later studied at the Melbourne College of Art in Australia, where she received a bachelor's degree in visual arts and a bachelor's degree with honors. At the same time, she pursued a master's degree in Asia-Pacific Cultural Studies at the University of New England.
As a young Chinese artist, Yang Rong ponders the differences between Eastern and Western cultures, and expresses her understanding of the world in the form of traditional Chinese drama and world stage play.

From Yang Rong's early exhibitions at the Old Bungalow Art Museum in Shanghai, to her new creations in Australia, her canvases are full of reflections on life and the universe. The figures, animals, and abstract symbols in the work are intertwined, and the fierce collision of colors and lines seems to tell a mysterious story.
Looking at Yang Rong's paintings is like entering a fantastical meditation space, the artist integrates elements such as expressionism and post-impressionism to present a wonderful world of life like a play.

Mr. Wang Tao, the academic advisor of the exhibition, the president of the Art Institute of Chicago Asia and the chief curator of Chinese art, believes that the visual language of Yang Rong's works reveals a conceptual exploration of mystical philosophy, trying to open up the domain of human beings to the sixth sense. Unconsciously, our eyes dazzle and our hearts move, and our spirits are greatly purified and sublimated. I think this kind of art has gone beyond the general definition of painting art and has become a kind of inner practice.

Yang Rong's works also allow the audience to deeply feel the breath of Australian Aboriginal art. This kind of art carries the charm of dreams, in which time and space are redivided, and people and ancestors, gods, animals and plants in nature, mountains and rivers, plants and trees are intertwined, and all things are psychic, producing a huge energy, which is endless, and the beginning of eternity.
As Yang Rong herself says, spiritual symbols, rituals, and mysterious myths are the source of inspiration for my work, and I try to convey a spiritual experience that transcends the material world through art.
Yang Rong's work
Yang Rong perfectly combines the worldview of oriental mysticism with the dreamy time of the Australian Aborigines, creating a unique artistic landscape that also makes the viewer rethink the situation of the times and the position of personal identity.
