Although China does not recognize dual citizenship, did you know that for children, it is still possible to choose between dual citizenship before the age of 18?
For example, if one parent is a Chinese citizen and the other parent is an Australian citizen, the child can retain dual citizenship until the age of 18.
Children after the age of 18 can retain their Chinese nationality if they renounce their Australian citizenship and maintain their permanent residence status in Australia by applying for an Australian permanent residence visa.
Dual citizenship often occurs when the child was born in China and one of the parents is a foreigner. For example, for a child born outside of Australia, the child can apply to become an Australian heir citizen if either parent was an Australian citizen at the time of birth.
Eligibility
In addition to requiring one parent to be an Australian citizen, applicants over the age of 18 are also required to be able to pass a character test, and if the applicant's parent is an inherited citizen, they must have been legally resident in Australia for a total of more than two years.
The applicant can become an Australian citizen and be issued a citizenship certificate from the date of registration as a citizen by the visa office, and the applicant can apply for an Australian passport after receiving the Australian citizenship certificate.
Bill of Materials
To apply for Australian inheritance citizenship, you need to prepare the following materials:
1. Complete Form 1195;
2. A scanned color copy of the applicant's birth certificate;
3. 2-inch ID photo of the applicant;
4. Notarization of the applicant's previous name (applicable to the applicant and parents);
5. Documents proving that at least one parent was an Australian citizen at the time of birth (e.g. Australian passport, citizenship certificate or Australian birth certificate);
6. If the applicant is under the age of 18, both parents of the applicant are required to provide a written consent letter, contact number, passport biographical page or ID card;
7. Parents' marriage certificate or proof of the relationship between the parents at the time of the applicant's biological mother's pregnancy;
8. The application fee is $345, and the application fee for siblings who submit the application together is $145;
