In 1975, Huang Wei, a former senior general of the Kuomintang Army, and several other generals were released from prison as the last group of war criminals. After a lapse of 27 years, when he returned to society, he was no longer the Huang Wei who had been loyal for half his life.
When he came out and saw the prosperity of China under the leadership of the Communist Party, he realized how ridiculous his pledge of allegiance to the Kuomintang had become for the first half of his life.
The meticulous care of the caretakers during the correctional period and the changes in the current social environment made him regret his previous stupid behavior. It was only then that he clearly realized that this might be the reason why the Communist Party was able to defeat the Kuomintang.
After the amnesty, Huang Wei was trusted by the organization and was approved as one of the few former senior Kuomintang officials who could visit Taiwan. On the eve of his visit to Taiwan, he was invited by a friend to hope that he could stay in Taiwan, but he said with a smile: "I don't want to stay in Taiwan, I'd better go back to the mainland, there is my home." ”
So what did Huang Wei go through in the past 27 years that caused his attitude towards the Communist Party to change so much, and why did he refuse to stay in Taiwan?
A bookish and angry Kuomintang general
One day in 1904, Huang Wei was born into a landlord family in Guixi, Jiangxi Province. Since he was a child, he received a good education, and he was born very smart, and he learned things very quickly.
When he was only 14 years old, he was admitted to a normal college in Jiangxi with excellent grades. It was also in this place that he met his confidant Fang Zhimin.
At that time, Fang Zhimin was four years older than Huang Wei, and after Huang Wei came to school, Fang Zhimin helped him a lot in life and Xi, as if he treated Huang Wei as his own brother. Therefore, Huang Wei also trusts this brother who takes care of him everywhere.
It was precisely because he gradually relied on Fang Zhimin that his earliest revolutionary ideas were also exposed to Fang Zhimin, and it was from Fang Zhimin that he came into contact with the revolutionary ideas of Chen Duxiu and other communists, and was deeply touched.
At that time, after Huang Wei came into contact with these advanced revolutionary ideas, he could not help but think of the turbulent scenes of the era in which China was located, and the young Huang Wei could not help but sigh at the cruel reality faced by the people of that era.
Huang Wei, who was full of anxiety, approached Fang Zhimin, expressed his concern about the predicament facing the country now, and asked Fang Zhimin about his plans after graduation. Fang Zhimin also felt the same way after learning his idea.
He told Huang Wei: "Now the country is in a critical moment, and a large number of people with lofty ideals are urgently needed, and we, as young people in the new era, should strive for this." I heard that Mr. Sun was recruiting people with lofty ideals in Guangzhou, and I wanted to go there after graduation and follow him to do something big. ”
Huang Wei was deeply shocked after hearing this, and he admired Fang Zhimin even more, and said that after graduation, he would also follow Fang Zhimin to Guangzhou to join the revolution. However, after Fang Zhimin graduated, he did not go to Guangzhou to seek refuge with Sun Yat-sen, but returned to his hometown and devoted himself to the revolutionary cause of our party.
After Huang Wei graduated, he did not choose to go to Guangzhou for the first time, and also returned to his hometown to become a teacher, but he always wanted to do something meaningful for his hometown, and learned that Sun Yat-sen established the Whampoa Military Academy in Guangzhou, which aroused his determination to serve the country.
So he immediately bid farewell to his hometown and got up and came to Nanchang to look for Fang Zhimin, hoping to go to Guangzhou with him. After he came to Nanchang, he found Fang Zhimin, who was giving a speech, according to the information provided to him by his classmates.
I saw Fang Zhimin standing in the crowd at that time, waving his arms and speaking loudly: "If the country wants to be strong and the people want to be rich and strong, it is necessary to overthrow the rule of the warlords. We need to unite and fight against them. ”
The crowd listened to Fang Zhimin's impassioned speech, and they all shouted along with him, Huang Wei was also infected by Fang Zhimin's speech, and he didn't expect that the two of them would meet again in such a situation after so many years.
He walked through the crowd, came to Fang Zhimin's and shouted "Brother Fang", after Fang Zhimin heard it, he followed the sound and saw Huang Wei in the crowd, he was very excited, jumped off the podium, hugged Huang Wei, and asked Huang Wei eagerly: "Brother Huang, why did you come here?"
Huang Wei was also very happy to say to Fang Zhimin: "Brother Fang, I came to you on a special trip, I want to call you to go to Guangzhou with me, we will sign up for the Whampoa Military Academy founded by Mr. Sun, and after graduation, we will serve the country together." ”
Fang Zhimin was about to say something after hearing it, but he was immediately interrupted by Huang Wei, who said, "Brother Fang, this is not the place to speak. When I was going this way just now, I saw a group of military police on the road searching for someone, so it was better for us to leave this place first. ”
Fang Zhimin seemed to understand something after hearing it, so he immediately took Huang Wei and quickly fled from the place where they were now. Not long after they left, a large number of military police came to the place where they had just stayed, and Fang Zhimin escaped.
After the two of them left, Huang Wei told Fang Zhimin his thoughts as they were, and Fang Zhimin agreed with his idea very much and expressed his willingness to go to Guangzhou with him. So they came to Shanghai together to sign up, and both passed the preliminary examination.
Huang Wei's military career
After receiving the news that they had passed the preliminary examination, Huang Wei and Fang Zhimin immediately prepared to leave for Guangzhou for the retest, but the night before leaving Shanghai, Fang Zhimin decided to cancel the plan to go to Guangzhou for the retest for personal reasons.
He said to Huang Wei: "Brother Huang, you go and have a look first, and when my business is done, I will come to you immediately, and then we will serve the country together." After hearing Fang Zhimin's words, Huang Wei was reluctant in every way, but he was helpless, so he could only go to Guangzhou for the retest.
After coming to Guangzhou, Huang Wei passed the re-examination with excellent performance, was successfully admitted to the Whampoa Military Academy, and joined the Kuomintang, and his military career officially began.
During his studies at the military academy, because of his outstanding performance, he was incorporated into the penalized army as soon as he graduated. Because of his outstanding performance in the Northern Expedition, he was soon appointed as the regiment commander, and he was only twenty-four years old that year, which belonged to the relatively young group of many Northern Expedition generals.
It was precisely because of his outstanding performance in the army that he was valued by the Kuomintang. In 1927, Chiang Kai-shek brazenly launched a counter-revolutionary coup d'état, wantonly hunting down and mutilating communists. It was only after this that Huang Wei learned that Fang Zhimin, who was determined to apply for the military academy with him, had already joined the Communist Party.
Therefore, Huang Wei, feeling deceived, swore to follow Chiang Kai-shek to the death and massacre the Communists, and he and Fang Zhimin also officially parted ways, and Fang Zhimin was also arrested and killed in the subsequent struggle against the Kuomintang.
On the other side, because of his outstanding performance in the Northern Expedition, Huang Wei's career in the Kuomintang was also promoted all the way, and he was also favored by Chiang Kai-shek, became Chiang Kai-shek's protégé, and entrusted him with important tasks, and became the division commander of the Kuomintang army when he was twenty-nine years old.
In order to enable Huang Wei to get a better development, Chiang Kai-shek specially sent him to Germany for further study in 1936. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Huang Wei immediately gave up the opportunity to continue his studies and resolutely returned to China to participate in the Anti-Japanese War.
Huang Wei, who returned to China, was appointed as the commander of the 67th Division of the 18th Army of the Kuomintang, and was responsible for leading his troops to Shanghai to participate in the Battle of Songhu. In this battle of more than three months, all the officers and soldiers of the 67th Division led by Huang Wei fought bravely and severely damaged the Japanese army in the Battle of Luodian, which also made Huang Wei's reputation famous.
After that, Huang Wei still fought bravely in the process of the Anti-Japanese War, and made great and small achievements, so in 1938 he was promoted to the post of the 18th Army and was personally received by Chiang Kai-shek.
Chiang Kai-shek also praised his performance and said that his future was limitless. However, it was precisely because he was valued by Chiang Kai-shek that he was jealous of some other villains in the Kuomintang army at that time, so they began to stumble on him behind his back.
When he was transferred to the post of commander of the 54th Army, in order to improve the quality of the rations of the officers and men of the army, he adopted an extreme method to raise the money for military rations. As everyone knows, it was his behavior of using empty wages to raise funds that was caught by people with intentions.
In the end, he was sued to the Ministry of Military Affairs, and it was precisely because of this that he was put on the hat of "corruption", Huang Wei was very angry when he learned that his behavior was convicted of corruption, he was very angry, and he who had always been straightforward no longer estimated face, and quarreled with He Yingqin, who was in charge of the investigation at the time, and resigned from all his positions and returned to his hometown.
However, Chiang Kai-shek felt very sorry after learning the news of Huang Wei's resignation, he knew Huang Wei's personality very well, but because of the pressure exerted on him by some people in the army, he could not transfer Huang Wei back to the army. So he was assigned to the rear to be responsible for military education-related affairs, and trained a large number of military talents for the Kuomintang.
At the time of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Huang Wei was reactivated by Chiang Kai-shek. However, at this time, Huang Wei only wanted to engage in military education and did not want to lead troops to fight again. His behavior was reprimanded by Chiang Kai-shek, and he had no choice but to agree to Chiang Kai-shek.
Stubborn prisoners of war
In 1948, under the recommendation of Chen Cheng, Huang Wei served as the corps commander of the 12th Corps, which was known as the elite of the national army at that time. After the Huaihai Battle officially began, the 12th Corps was under the leadership of Huang Wei, because of his worries, delayed the battlefield opportunity.
On his way to Bengbu, Huang Wei and his 12th Corps were surrounded by the People's Liberation Army in Shuangduiji. In order to avoid casualties caused by the battle, Chen Geng, who encircled and suppressed the 12th Corps, "persuaded Huang Weibu to surrender".
However, it was categorically rejected by Huang Wei. and began to mobilize troops, trying to carry out a counteroffensive to break through, but under the heavy encirclement of the PLA, how could the Huang Wei Corps say that it could break through the encirclement, after the PLA gradually narrowed the scope of the encirclement, the Huang Wei Corps was also gradually defeated.
The Kuomintang troops led by Huang Wei were finally annihilated after stubbornly resisting for more than 20 days. After Huang Wei was defeated, he tried to escape on a tank, but in the process of escaping, the tank broke down halfway due to a malfunction.
Huang Wei was also captured by the People's Liberation Army and taken prisoner. When he became a prisoner, he did not hide his identity, generously admitted that he was Huang Wei, and expressed his hope to give him a good time.
But the People's Liberation Army did not shoot him because of his identity, but after arresting him, they persuaded him to write a letter to Du Yuming and ask him to surrender. However, Huang Wei was very stubborn, refused to live or die, and shouted loudly to give him another chance, open the distance of twenty miles, and the two sides duel again.
However, the reality is brutal. After Huang Wei was arrested, he was escorted by a team of PLA soldiers to Gongdelin in Beijing, where he was imprisoned with senior Kuomintang generals such as Du Yuming, Wang Yaowu, and Song Xilian.
Among the high-ranking Kuomintang generals who came to Gongdelin, many of them were very obedient to the Communist Party's labor discipline against them, but Huang Wei did not accompany them and became a well-known "unprovoked" among the people. In some cases, they even get into fights with their peers and correctional staff.
As a result, he became the "focus of attention" of the correctional officers, and in 1968, he was sent to the war criminals management center in Fushun to continue his sentence. Huang Wei, who came to Fushun, was still as smelly and hard as the stones in the pit.
The managers didn't take him at all. But not long after coming to the Fushun Management Center, Huang Wei's hemorrhoids occurred. After learning of his condition, the management staff prepared the medicine needed for his treatment, and Huang Wei's stone heart gradually softened.
The administrator did not stop at the end of the treatment after providing him with the medication, and instead reported his condition. When the higher authorities learned of the situation, they immediately called in an expert in this area to perform surgery for him, and his illness for many years was cured.
Feeling concerned, he slowly began to cooperate with the work of the management, and his thinking changed rapidly. Therefore, his Xi and work in the management office have also become very active, and the administrators are very happy to see his change.
As he Xi deepened, he became aware of the Communist Party's contributions to China, which the Kuomintang would never have been able to do. It is precisely because of these Xi that the ideology of the Communist Party has penetrated deep into Huang Wei's heart.
In 1975, Huang Wei and some other war criminals were granted amnesty by the central government as the last group of war criminals, and Huang Wei began a new life.
After Huang Wei was pardoned, he threw himself into the road of building a new China. And in order to promote the reunification of the whole country, he ran everywhere, hoping to make a contribution to the reunification of the motherland.
Once, after he went to Hong Kong, Huang Wei, who had just arrived at the hotel where he was staying, was "visited" by his "former friend". Under the pretext of "visiting friends," they expressed their hope that Huang Wei would stay in Taiwan after his visit to Taiwan, but what they did not expect was this.
Their proposal was categorically rejected by Huang Wei, and he persuaded them and their compatriots in Taiwan to sober up in time and return to the embrace of the motherland.
Thanks to his efforts, cross-strait relations made a breakthrough in 1989. But it was also in this year worth celebrating that Huang Wei finally died of illness at the age of 85.
