2024 Samsung Product Outlook

Samsung said on January 2 that the company will launch its next-generation mobile device — possibly the rumored Galaxy S24 series — on January 17. This will be one of the first major smartphones to be released in 2024, and Samsung's device is expected to include new AI features as well as other regular camera and processor upgrades.

Generative AI is leading the tech trend in 2023, and Samsung is no exception. Last November, Samsung unveiled its own generative AI model and teased a new experience called Galaxy AI, which seems to herald an important role in the 2024 phone lineup.

Samsung not only manufactures mobile phones and wearables, but also a variety of other products such as TVs, monitors, laptops, and home appliances. As one of the leading manufacturers of global smartphone shipments, Samsung has a significant presence in the mobile market.

The launch of the Galaxy S typically marks the launch of the first mainstream smartphone of the year, thus setting the tone for market expectations in 2024. Like many tech companies, Samsung tends to release new smartphones and smartwatches every year.

While only Samsung knows exactly which new Galaxy products will be launched when, we can make educated guesses based on the company's release patterns over the past few years.

Read on as we look ahead to 9 exciting new products that Samsung will launch in 2024.

Galaxy S24 series

The launch date of the Galaxy S24 series has been confirmed, taking place on January 17 after the CES 2024 technical conference in Las Vegas. Artificial intelligence is likely to be the main focus of the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung recently announced its new generative AI model called Gauss, which is essentially a response to ChatGPT. As with similar AI tools, Samsung says Gauss can compose emails, summarize documents, and assist with writing code.

Samsung also teased the Galaxy AI in November and described it as a new AI experience coming next year. The company hasn't revealed more details about the Galaxy AI, but did say it will be able to translate phone calls.

In addition, Samsung released the Exynos 2400 processor in October, which is claimed to deliver a 14.7x increase in AI performance and support for text-to-image AI generation.

Samsung typically only comes with Exynos chips in certain Galaxy models sold in specific markets and uses Qualcomm's latest chips in regions such as the United States. But Qualcomm is also providing more AI capabilities for its next-generation mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Qualcomm showcased the chip's AI capabilities at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii at the end of October, which could indicate that AI could feature prominently in the Exynos and Qualcomm versions of Samsung's expected new phones.

Cameras seem like a logical area to inject into artificial intelligence. Samsung recently announced a new feature for its 200-megapixel camera sensor called "Zoom Anywhere" that will enable future phones to zoom up to 4x when shooting moving objects.

Rumors from a well-known leaker on X (formerly Twitter) called Ice Universe claim that the 200-megapixel camera mode will use artificial intelligence to recognize up to a dozen types of objects and optimize the scene accordingly.

But since these developments are aimed at a 200-megapixel sensor, it is likely that they will only work with the rumored Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Samsung has already used artificial intelligence in its Bixby Custom Voice Creator, where users can record sentences that can be analyzed by an assistant to replicate a person's voice and tone.

Following Google's recent improvements to Google Assistant, it's no surprise that Samsung is exploring more voice-related AI features.

Galaxy A55 5G

Galaxy A54 5G

Although Samsung's Galaxy A-series phones aren't as well-known as the company's Galaxy S devices, they're well-received for their premium features like an advanced multi-lens camera and a high-refresh rate screen, and they're more affordable.

However, it is important to note that these phones may compromise on some aspects, such as performance and camera quality.

Samsung usually releases new Galaxy A phones in March every year, such as the Galaxy A54 5G in 2023 and the Galaxy A53 5G in 2022. There hasn't been any exact news or rumors about the Galaxy A55 yet, but we expect some upgrades in terms of processor, camera, and design.

However, we shouldn't expect the new Galaxy A phones to come with the same chip as the Galaxy S24 series. Because the processor in a Samsung Galaxy A phone is usually one level lower than the processor in its flagship device.

For example, the Galaxy A54 uses the company's Exynos 1380 processor, which is slightly behind Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 series. This means that if Samsung does release a successor to the Galaxy A54, it may not have the AI features we've come to expect in the Galaxy S24.

Galaxy Z Flip 6

三星 Galaxy Z Flip 5

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Flip 4, thanks in large part to its larger coverage screen, gapless design, and improved camera.

The rumored Galaxy Z Flip 6 could be upgraded from the Z Flip 5, such as a new processor, and perhaps more software features that take advantage of its foldable design.

A report from the Galaxy Club blog states that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 could come with a 50-megapixel main camera sensor, which would be a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Flip 5's 12-megapixel camera.

The company also typically puts the same chip from its flagship Galaxy S series into the Galaxy Z Flip, so it's possible that it will inherit the same AI technology as the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung typically releases new Galaxy Z Flip phones in August, although the Z Flip 5 was released earlier this year (July).

Galaxy Z Fold 6

三星 Galaxy Z Fold 5

Like the Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung's latest Galaxy Z Fold will usually hit the market in late summer. There aren't many rumors about the next steps for the Z Fold at the moment.

A recent patent showcases a device similar to the Galaxy Z Fold with an S Pen slot, which has sparked speculation that Samsung's next-generation book-shaped foldable device will eventually provide storage space for a stylus. This may make the Galaxy Z Fold 6 more practical as a productivity device.

According to Samsung's previously released Galaxy Z Fold series, the Z Fold 6 will likely come with a new processor that matches the Galaxy S24, some new software features, and a slightly improved design. But the exact details are yet to be determined by the release in the summer.

Galaxy Watch 7 Series

三星 Galaxy Watch

While we can't predict what's next for Samsung's smartwatch lineup for the time being, we have reason to believe that health tracking will remain an important theme.

Samsung has been investing heavily in sleep research, even completing what is billed as the largest single health sleep study in history by surveying the sleep behavior of Galaxy Health users around the world. Earlier this year, Samsung put sleep statistics at the heart of its smartwatch with the One UI 5 Watch software update.

As my colleague Lexy Savvides wrote in her review, the biggest differences between the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 6 are in the software, screen, and battery life.

Samsung is likely to take a similar upgrade path with the Galaxy Watch 7. Considering that Samsung plans to focus on the field of artificial intelligence next year, it is also more likely that the next-generation Galaxy Watch will incorporate AI functions.

Galaxy Buds 3

三星 Galaxy Buds 2 Pro

Samsung has launched a pair of "fan versions" of the Galaxy Buds in 2023, but it's been a while since the regular and Pro versions were released. The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro was launched in August 2022 and the Galaxy Buds 2 was launched in August 2021. While these two pairs of headphones are highly rated for their comfortable design and good sound quality, there is still room for improvement.

For example, some Galaxy Buds 2 Pro features are only available on Galaxy phones, which may limit their appeal to users of other Android phones. The regular Galaxy Buds 2 have low-grade IPX2 water resistance. Hopefully, Samsung's next-generation Galaxy Buds will address these flaws and other issues.

Galaxy smart ring

Oura ring ring

Samsung has been selling smartwatches and wireless headphones for years, but the tech giant is now considering expanding into a whole new product category: smart rings.

According to South Korean news outlet The Elec, Samsung could launch a smart ring in the third quarter of 2024 or early 2025. The design of the ring is said to be inspired by the Oura ring ring, which is expected to be a health-tracking device and will come in four sizes for consumers to choose from.

Although Samsung hasn't officially announced any plans for smart rings, the health tracking feature seems like a reasonable application for such a device. Smart rings have two major advantages over smart watches: they are lighter and more compact, making them easier to wear at night. And because there is no screen, its battery life is far superior to that of a smartwatch.

New Galaxy foldable

Samsung has a lot of ideas for what's next in the foldable phone, but its concept of the future hasn't yet become a real product.

At CES 2023, Samsung showed off the Flex Hybrid, which has a tablet-sized screen that can be expanded to provide more screen real estate. This is just one of several concepts that Samsung has demonstrated over the years, and it has also created prototypes of mobile devices that can bend in multiple areas like an accordion.

The company has not yet revealed when or if the concepts will be brought to market. But shipments of foldable phones are expected to grow, even though they represent only a small portion of today's mobile market.

According to market research firm International Data Corporation, global foldable phone shipments are expected to grow by 43.9% compared to 2022.

Galaxy VR headset

Gear VR headset

This year has been a crucial one for the mixed reality space. A number of giants have launched new products: Apple has launched its first mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, Meta has launched the Quest 3, and Sony has also launched the PlayStation VR 2. However, Samsung's plans in the mixed reality space remain mysterious.

Samsung, Qualcomm and Google are teaming up to develop a mixed reality project, but little is known about it since the three companies announced their partnership in February 2023. We're looking forward to hearing more about this at Samsung's anticipated Galaxy S24 launch, which could take place about a year after the partnership was announced.

Despite this, Samsung has not revealed whether it is working on any specific mixed reality products, such as new headsets.

TM Roh, president of Samsung's mobile division, said in an interview in February, "It's more of a declarative statement about how we're going to properly build the XR ecosystem. ”

Although we don't yet know what the company's mixed reality plans are, Roh hinted in another interview in July that mobile phones will play an important role in the experience.

"So, in the short term, a lot of the features or experiences in mixed reality could be related to smartphones," he said. ”

As 2024 approaches, we'll learn more about Samsung's product plans. Considering the development trend of the technology industry, AI will undoubtedly become an important part of future development.
