In 1986, Chairman Li Xiannian met with Zheng Youming, the magistrate of Nanjiang County, and during the conversation, Chairman Li Xiannian made a request that made Zheng Youming, the magistrate of Nanjiang County, a little puzzled.

Chairman Li Xiannian said that he hoped that Comrade Zheng Youming could help find a fellow countryman named Yu Guanzhang, and said that Yu Guanzhang was a cripple and was easy to find.

Subsequently, Chairman Li Xiannian took out a letter and handed it to Comrade Zheng Youming, meaning to ask Comrade Zheng Youming to help deliver the letter, and then visit Yu Guanzhang.

For Chairman Li Xiannian to attach so much importance to it, it shows that this person named Yu Guanzhang must be unusual, at least, there is a deep relationship between him and Chairman Li Xiannian.

So, who is Yu Guanzhang and why can Chairman Li Xiannian be so concerned?

In 86, Li Xiannian met with the magistrate of Nanjiang County, during which he made a request: Can you help me find a lame fellow

Born in poverty, Yu Guanzhang knitted straw shoes for Chairman Li Xiannian

Yu Guanzhang, a native of Wangcang County, Sichuan, was born in 1909 in an ordinary rural family.

When he was 9 years old, in order to reduce the burden on his family, Yu Guanzhang went to herd cattle for local landlords. Unfortunately, because the living environment was too humid, a year later, Yu Guanzhang's leg had a poisonous sore.

If it can be treated in time, it is not a big problem. However, Yu Guanzhang's parents could not afford the medical bills at all, so they could only let the disease develop.

Later, because he did not receive treatment in time, Yu Guanzhang's right leg became lame, which had a great impact on his life.

When he grew up, Yu Guanzhang was unable to engage in manual labor, so he had to learn the craft of weaving straw shoes to make a living.

In 1933, Wangcang County, where Yu Guanzhang was located, ushered in a Red Army unit, which was the Red Fourth Front Army.

After entering Wangcang County, the Red Fourth Front Army held a meeting at Mumen Temple in Wangcang County. After the meeting, the 11th Division of the Red Fourth Front Army was expanded into the Red 30th Army, and Chairman Li Xiannian served as the political commissar of the Red 30th Army.

Soon after, the Red 30th Army received an order from its superiors to establish a revolutionary base in Wangcang County and wage a struggle against nearby enemies.

In this way, the Red 30th Army was stationed in Yu Guanzhang's hometown. By chance, Yu Guanzhang met Chairman Li Xiannian.

At that time, Yu Guanzhang was weaving straw shoes in the Pigeon Temple, and Chairman Li Xiannian went to inspect the vicinity of the Pigeon Temple.

After a few words of greeting, Chairman Li Xiannian knew the specific situation of Yu Guanzhang, and after that, Chairman Li Xiannian often visited Yu Guanzhang, after all, he has a disability and should be taken care of.

In order to thank Chairman Li Xiannian, Yu Guanzhang personally knitted a pair of straw sandals and gave them to Chairman Li Xiannian, and later when Chairman Li Xiannian left, Yu Guanzhang made two stronger pairs of cloth and straw shoes and gave them to Chairman Li Xiannian.

These three pairs of straw sandals accompanied Chairman Li Xiannian through many battles, and even accompanied him to complete the Long March.

Be loyal to the revolution and swear not to surrender to the enemy

Later, the Red 30th Army was ordered to evacuate Wangcang County. At this time, Yu Guanzhang and his wife had already joined the Red 30th Army, and then evacuated with the large army.

However, because of his physical disability, Yu Guanzhang was unable to keep up with the large army, and in the end, Yu Guanzhang and the large army were separated, and had no choice but to return to his hometown, waiting for the Red Army to return to Wangcang County again.

After returning to his hometown, Yu Guanzhang was arrested by the Kuomintang troops, who knew that Yu Guanzhang had close contacts with the Red Army, so they wanted to obtain useful information from Yu Guanzhang's mouth.

In order to get Yu Guanzhang to speak, the Kuomintang officer cut off the thumb of Yu Guanzhang's right hand and fired two shots at Yu Guanzhang's left forearm.

Even so, Yu Guanzhang did not say a single word about the Red Army. The Kuomintang officers, who had nothing to do, felt that Yu Guanzhang was worthless and let him go.

Yu Guanzhang, who escaped death, ran to the Taoist temple near Yinling Mountain, but fortunately an old Taoist priest took him in, otherwise it was a question whether Yu Guanzhang could survive.

48 days later, Yu Guanzhang's injuries were basically fine, and after bidding farewell to the old Taoist priest, Yu Guanzhang limped back to his hometown. By this time, the Kuomintang army had withdrawn, and he continued to make a living by weaving straw shoes.

Yu Guanzhang has always missed his wife and Chairman Li Xiannian very much, and when he heard that many people had died in the Long March, Yu Guanzhang was very worried, and he was worried that his wife and Chairman Li Xiannian would also be killed by the enemy.

In this way, Yu Guanzhang waited until the liberation in 1949. After the liberation of Guangyuan, Yu Guanzhang asked around, but he still couldn't know the news of his wife and Chairman Li Xiannian.

Yu Guanzhang, who was disheartened, finally decided to follow the persuasion of the villagers and married a fellow villager girl named Li Qionglian.

To Yu Guanzhang's disbelief, a few years later, his ex-wife actually sent him a letter and sent 300 yuan.

In 1959, his ex-wife went to Wangcang to visit Yu Guanzhang, and after talking, he learned that his ex-wife had also rebuilt the family. In addition, the ex-wife also said that she gave birth to a daughter that year, but her whereabouts are unknown.

Later, Yu Guanzhang was looking for his daughter's whereabouts, but unfortunately, he was unable to see his daughter until Yu Guanzhang died.

From his ex-wife's mouth, Yu Guanzhang also knew the specific situation of Chairman Li Xiannian, and learned that he was doing well, Yu Guanzhang was also very happy, what he didn't expect was that Chairman Li Xiannian would ask someone to visit him many years later.

Entrusted someone to visit, Yu Guanzhang was very moved

In 1985, the People's Government of Wangcang County decided to build a memorial hall to commemorate the story of the Red Army here, and then the county government asked Chairman Li Xiannian to write an inscription for the memorial hall.

After seeing the request of the Wangcang County Government, Chairman Li Xiannian readily agreed, and at the same time, the past also came to mind, and Chairman Li Xiannian immediately remembered Yu Guanzhang.

In 1986, Chairman Li Xiannian met with Zheng Youming, the magistrate of Nanjiang County, in Beijing, during the conversation, he talked about the story in Wangcang County, and asked Zheng Youming to help visit Yu Guanzhang, and also wrote a letter to Yu Guanzhang.

In the autumn of the same year, Comrade Zheng Youming came to Wangcang County, and then found Yu Guanzhang, who was still alive. After seeing Yu Guanzhang, Comrade Zheng Youming explained his intentions, and then presented the letter written by Chairman Li Xiannian to Yu Guanzhang in person.

Yu Guanzhang burst into tears, he couldn't believe that Chairman Li Xiannian still remembered him, not only that, but also wrote about the trustee visit, which made Yu Guanzhang very moved.

In 1992, Chairman Li Xiannian died of illness in Beijing. Yu Guanzhang cried bitterly when he found out, and he was sad for many days.

In 1993, Chairman Li Xiannian's wife Lin Jialin came to Wangcang County and asked someone to send some gifts to Yu Guanzhang, and said that Yu Guanzhang would send her a photo.

Because of the limited conditions, Yu Guanzhang was unable to meet Li Xiannian's wife, and later, Yu Guanzhang took a photo and sent it to Comrade Lin Jialin.
