In 1949, the civil war situation was a foregone conclusion, Chiang Kai-shek's forces on the mainland were constantly wiped out by the People's Liberation Army, knowing the outcome of his defeat, Chiang Kai-shek had no choice but to flee to Taiwan.
In fact, at the beginning of 1949, because the Kuomintang continued to lose in the civil war, and many times Chiang Kai-shek's command was unfavorable, so the dissatisfaction with Chiang Kai-shek within the Kuomintang became more and more intense, and many high-level Kuomintang officials let him go into the wilderness.

Before 1969, Chiang Kai-shek's health was declining with age, but he could barely be called tough, but that all changed after a car accident in August 1969.
Chiang Kai-shek was in a car accident while going out, and he was hit in the chest, and from then on it was as if he had been hit in all aspects of his body, and he began to have serious problems in his body, especially in his heart.
During this period, in order to treat Chiang Kai-shek's body, the Chiang family mobilized various forces and invited many famous doctors from home and abroad, but Chiang Kai-shek's physical weakness was a foregone conclusion, and by 1975, Chiang Kai-shek's body had reached the point of running out of oil and lamps.

As for the fact that he could not return to the mainland for the time being, he also instructed his descendants to temporarily park his body in a villa in Cihu, and after his death, Chiang Kai-shek also wore seven pairs of pants according to the Xi of his hometown.
However, he could never have imagined that a wish to be buried in his hometown would not be fulfilled for decades after his death.
Chiang Kai-shek's obsession
Chiang Kai-shek died suddenly, and his last wish was to be buried on the mainland, temporarily suspended in Cihu, why?

In the fifties of the last century, China suffered a serious natural disaster, Chiang Kai-shek thought that this was a good opportunity to "counterattack the mainland", so he secretly ordered the army to prepare a counteroffensive, but he also thought that once the war burned to Taiwan, then his presidential palace was likely to become the target of the other side, so he was ready to choose a place not far from Taipei City as his office.
After coming to the Dongkou Hotel, Chiang Kai-shek found that the scenery here was very similar to his hometown of Fenghua, Zhejiang, so he had a good impression of this place, built his own villa here, and renamed this place "Cihu".
Although Chiang Kai-shek was ready to use this place as his temporary residence, the "counteroffensive" plan was not implemented, and it stands to reason that he did not need this place, but whenever Chiang Kai-shek missed his hometown, he would also choose to sit in this Cihu villa and talk about his past in his hometown.
For Chiang Kai-shek, perhaps this was the only place where he could place his nostalgia, and it was precisely because of this that Chiang Kai-shek hoped that he would be able to temporarily park in Cihu Lake after his death, looking at the scenery similar to his hometown.
For Chiang Kai-shek's last wishes, Chiang Ching-kuo has been conscientiously implementing them after his death, even if many people persuade Chiang Ching-kuo to put Chiang Kai-shek in the ground, and even take out the statement that Chiang Kai-shek's failure to enter the soil will affect the good fortune of the descendants of the Chiang family, it still failed to shake Chiang Ching-kuo.
The reason why Chiang Ching-kuo insisted so much was that in addition to his father's last wish, he also had his own selfish intentions, that is, he hoped that he could return to his hometown after his death.

At the press conference, Jiang Xiaoyong tearfully emphasized that his grandfather Chiang Kai-shek's last wish was to return to his hometown for burial, and his father Chiang Kai-shek also hoped to be buried on the mainland after his death, together with Chiang's family.

Today, Chiang's Mausoleum has become a tourist attraction in Taiwan, but the last wish of Chiang's father and son has not yet been realized, and perhaps in the near future, after the two sides of the strait are truly reunified, Chiang's father and son's last wish will be fulfilled.
