Writing background
In 1896, Henry Berkele of France discovered the radioactivity of uranium. Marie Curie read Berkechler's report with great interest and began to systematically explore whether there were other chemical elements other than uranium that were similarly radioactive, and discovered two new elements that were more radioactive than uranium— polonium and radium. So the Curies found a dilapidated shed in the Paris School of Sanitation Physical Chemistry, which became their "laboratory" after a little repair, where they began further research. The text records that after four years of hard work, they dissolved, evaporated, separated and purified the bitumen uranium slag countless times, and finally refined more than one-tenth of a gram of radium chloride.
Introduction to the works
The article recounts the curie's four years of extraction of radium in a shack. The author is like a photographer, showing one shot after another with great affection. We seem to be in a dilapidated shack, see the busy figure of The Curie couple, feel the hardships of scientific discovery, and also appreciate the persistence and optimism of scientists in the narrative, the article repeatedly quotes Marie Curie's own words, supplements the historical details, shows the psychological feelings of the owner, and enhances the authenticity of the article; At the same time, the narrative rhythm of the article is changed to make the writing more vivid.
About the Author
The younger daughter of French scientists Pierre Curie and Marie Curie, sister of Irena Joliot-Curie (winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry). Excellent music educator and biographer. French writer who wrote his mother's biography of Marie Curie.
About Marie Curie
Marie Curie (7 November 1867 – 4 July 1934), born in Warsaw, known as Marie Curie, was a famous Polish scientist, physicist and chemist in France. In 1903, the Curies and Becquerel were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for their research on radioactivity, and in 1911, they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry again for the discovery of the elements polonium and radium, thus becoming the first in the world to win two Nobel Prizes.
Summarize the main idea
This article tells the process of curia and his wife in the harsh working environment to study radium extraction, showing the scientists' perseverance, hard work, dedication to science, and the spirit of scientific exploration that takes pleasure in suffering praises the noble realm of the Curie couple and indifferent to fame and fortune.
Hierarchy
Part I (1-6): Write about the harsh working environment and hard work of the Curies.
Part II (7-19): Write about the difficulty and length of the curies' discovery of radium.
The third part (20~26): writes that the Curies finally discovered the "beautiful face" - successful extraction of radium.
