Japan has recently suffered a severe earthquake, according to the latest data from authoritative departments, the earthquake has caused eight people to die so far. And how will it affect Japan?
According to CCTV news, at 5 o'clock local time on January 2, the Ishikawa County Police Headquarters in Japan informed the outside world of sporadic casualties. Previously, on the afternoon of January 1, the Noto Peninsula, a place in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, was suddenly hit by a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6.
Tokyo Electric Power Company, Japan's largest power company, was also affected by the earthquake at its nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture. It is reported that during the earthquake, the water surface of the spent fuel pool of the reactors of units 2, 3, 6, and 7 at the Kashiwazaki Kariba Nuclear Power Plant overflowed due to shaking. TEPCO claims that the spilled fuel pool water contains radioactive materials, but its radioactivity level is being further determined.
However, TEPCO stressed that although a small amount of radioactive material spilled out of the pool, it did not flow outside the building and did not affect the surrounding environment.
On the morning of the 2nd, another magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck the waters off the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, with a maximum tremor of 3 and an epicenter depth of about 10 km.
Subsequently, the Japan Meteorological Agency downgraded the "tsunami warning" issued in a wide area along the coast of the Sea of Japan to a "tsunami warning" in the early morning, calling on coastal residents to remain vigilant.
Within 10 minutes of the earthquake, waves of more than 1.2 meters high were observed at Wajima Port in Ishikawa Prefecture, which caused panic throughout the Japanese archipelago. From Hokkaido to Kyushu Island, waves of varying heights were observed over a wide area. In response, the Japan Meteorological Agency downgraded the "tsunami warning" for the Noto Peninsula area and changed it to a "tsunami warning".
As of 7:30 p.m. Beijing time on January 1, there were no reports of the disaster. According to the Global System for Disaster Warning and Coordination, about 30,000 people live within 100 kilometres of the epicentre of the earthquake, which and the ensuing tsunami are expected to have catastrophic consequences.
The strong earthquake in Japan has also attracted the attention of the Chinese people. The Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the mainland issued a special report on the seismic event, saying that although the 7.6 magnitude earthquake caused a tsunami, it is not expected to have an impact on the mainland coast.
Therefore, the earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture is not an isolated natural disaster, but a large-scale global event. This will cause global concern, both in terms of loss of life and property damage caused by the disaster itself, as well as its far-reaching impact on the global geography and climate pattern.
If the consequences of the earthquake are not dealt with in a timely manner, then there may be all kinds of unpredictable chain reactions, and may even cause certain harm to the world.
