Liu Xiu, as the founder of the Eastern Han Dynasty, is famous for his benevolence. However, under his rule, there was a hero who almost went to the point of no return. This hero's name is Liu Long, the character Yuanbo, and Liu Xiu went out of Anzhong County, Nanyang County, and has the identity of a clan relative of the Han family.
Liu Long's adventures began when he was born. In the revolt led by Liu Li, the Marquis of Anzhong, his father was spared because he was not yet seven years old. As an adult, Liu Long went to Chang'an to study, but it coincided with the end of Wang Mang's reign. In 23 AD, the first emperor Liu Xuan ascended the throne, the Green Forest Army broke through Chang'an, Liu Long heard that Liu Xiu was rising in Hanoi, and resolutely went to defect. This decision changed his fate and laid the groundwork for later history.
Liu Long was highly valued by Liu Xiu, and his meritorious service was so great that he was named the Marquis of Kang's father, served as a general of the prisoner, and participated in the battle against Li Xian. Subsequently, he was appointed as the Taishou of Nanjun and was renamed Marquis of Jingling. However, just as Liu Xiu set out to carry out the "Dutian" campaign to check the land situation, Liu Long almost went to a dead end.
The purpose of the campaign was to take stock of land and population in order to revise actual statistics and improve fiscal and local administration. However, Liu Long, as the Taishou of Nanyang, faced this political storm, and he, like other officials, dissented about it. History records that Emperor Guangwu Liu Xiu had ambitions for the "Dutian" movement, but local officials obstructed it, with Luoyang and Nanyang being the most serious problems.
Liu Long fell into a political whirlpool and became the focus of controversy in the "Dutian" movement. Liu Xiu once considered executing Liu Long, but in the end, given his status and merits, Liu Xiu chose to be demoted to a concubine and stay away from the political arena. This decision not only showed Liu Xiu's benevolence, but also allowed Liu Long to escape.
After the debasement, Liu Long did not become an unknown person. He was named the Marquis of Fule Township, participated in the battle of the horse aid to conquer Jiaozhi, and was awarded the title of Marquis of Changping. During his tenure as a hussar general and acting as the Grand Commander, he made outstanding contributions to the country. However, the end of his life was not the fall of the hero, Liu Long died of illness in 57 AD, nicknamed Jinghou.
Liu Long's story may not be well-known, but it is the epitome of the social changes in that special era.
