This flight is surprisingly cheap, and it will start in March 2024.

It would be too expensive to fly directly back to China! If you take a plane from this low-cost airline company to Tokyo first and then fly back to China, it will be a lot cheaper!

It's a lot cheaper to transfer from here

Zipair Airlines has announced new details of its new low-cost, frequent nonstop flights to Vancouver and Tokyo, including opening dates, schedules and fare schedules.

Zipair, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan Airlines, has been steadily adding more routes to Tokyo since the low-cost airline was founded in 2018.

Daily Hive Venture has reported on Zipair's new route to open in early November 2023, which will be the first low-cost flight option between Japan and Vancouver and the airline's fourth transpacific route.

Pre-orders for Zipair flights between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) begin today, with the maiden flight on March 13, 2024.

Zipair will initially fly three round-trip flights per week (six flights) on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Flights will depart from YVR at 10:30 a.m. and arrive at Tokyo Airport (NRT) at 1 p.m. the next day.

The return flight will depart NRT at 4 p.m. and land at YVR at 8:30 a.m. on the same day. Over time, there will be very slight changes in flight times.

"This new route will strengthen our international network across the Pacific while meeting the growing demand for travel between Vancouver and Tokyo, Japan," Zipair President Shingo Nishida said in a statement. We sincerely look forward to and welcome our customers in Canada to use our services, as this route will provide a valuable link for business and cultural exchanges between the two countries. "

There are also lie-flat seats

Full flatbed seats from Vancouver to Tokyo start at just C$1,102 CAD (118,559 JPY) and full-flatbed seats from Tokyo to Vancouver start at C$979 CAD (105,335 JPY). That's just 20% to 40% of the fares for business class seats operated by other airlines on this route, which are fully reclined, allowing passengers to lie horizontally.

Standard seats start at CAD 352 CAD (JPY 37,887) on one-way flights from Vancouver to Tokyo, and standard seats start at CAD 306 CAD (JPY 32,960) on one-way flights from Tokyo to Vancouver.

That's less than half the economy class fare of other airlines on this route, but there's one important caveat: as a low-cost airline, Zipair requires passengers to pay extra for any extra baggage (carry-on and checked baggage) and amenities.

Do the math to see if it's worth it

Each fare includes a carry-on baggage allowance of up to 7kg, with an additional weight of up to 8kg (15kg total) for an additional fee of CAD 52 CAD (JPY 5,000).

For checked bags, there is an additional charge of CAD 73 CAD (JPY 7,000) for each piece of checked baggage up to 30 kg.

In-flight meals are also available at an additional cost and can be booked in advance.

In addition, passengers can also book additional fees as a package. The Value Pack offers up to 30 kg of checked baggage, seat selection and in-flight meal service for $114 CAD (11,000 JPY), while the Premium package offers all the services in the Value Plus package, plus an additional 8 kg of carry-on baggage and a set of household items (blanket, earplugs, eye mask, neck pillow and slippers) for $187 CAD (JPY 18,000).

Existing direct flights between Vancouver and Tokyo include routes operated by Japan Airlines and Air Canada to Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) in Japan, and routes operated by All Nippon Airways to Haneda Airport (HND). The three airlines currently have one round-trip flight each per day, for a total of three round-trip flights per day (six flights).

In addition, Zipair operates eight other international routes between Tokyo's Narita International Airport (NRT) and San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, San Jose, Singapore, Seoul, Manila and Bangkok.
