BYD started L3 testing, and the competition in the auto market in 2024 will be the competition of L3 autonomous driving!

BYD, China's largest electric vehicle maker, will begin testing Level 3 autonomous driving systems. In July 2023, BYD received permission from the government to test Level 3 autonomous driving technology.

So far, six car companies, including AVATAR, Deep Blue, Mercedes-Benz, Jihu, BMW, and Zhiji, have obtained test licenses, and the cities that have carried out the tests include Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing. In the coming year, there will be fierce competition for Level 3 autonomous driving.

Level 3 autonomous driving technology refers to "conditional" autonomous driving. It is possible to drive autonomously on highways or under certain conditions. Even if you don't hold the steering wheel, the system will take the place of driving. In the event of an accident while the autonomous driving system is operating normally, the responsibility lies clearly with the vehicle manufacturer.

At present, Mercedes-Benz is the leader in Level 3 autonomous driving technology in the world. In the U.S. and European markets, Drive Pilot, the world's first and only SEA Level 3 certified system commercialized in the U.S., was released.

At the end of this year, Mercedes-Benz will launch some EQS sedans and S-Class Drive Pilot installations in China. It is reported that Mercedes-Benz began trial operation on closed roads in Beijing, China in 2021, optimizing the algorithm of the driving test according to China's infrastructure and traffic conditions.

BYD's intelligent technology R&D team has achieved the world's first in-vehicle computing platform and self-developed operating system and algorithm that are currently designed, developed and mass-produced. BYD tests a vehicle equipped with a Level 3 autonomous driving system on a highway in Shenzhen, China.

SAIC and Alibaba's joint electric vehicle brand Zhiji has also applied for registration of Level 3 autonomous vehicle-related products. Zhiji Auto said that its electric vehicles will be the first to enter the Level 3 autonomous driving trial program in China.

It is understood that cars applying for L3 autonomous driving road test licenses need to pass the professional assessment and review in the early stage, and they also need to upload test data throughout the road test and accept supervision at any time. The road conditions in the test area need to be representative in order to validate the practical application of the vehicle's autonomous driving system in the future.

Among the above-mentioned car companies, only AVATAR, Deep Blue and ARCFOX have announced test models, namely AVATR 11, Navy SL03 and ARCFOX Alpha S Advance Edition. Among them, the dark blue L3 autonomous driving function is only equipped with test vehicles, and is not equipped with real vehicles. The AVATR 11 and ARCFOX Alpha S Advanced Edition use Huawei's ADS 2.0 high-end intelligent driving system.
