BlendJet is recalling a portable blender that affects 117,286 units in Canada and 4.8 million units in the United States. The reason for this is that the company has received dozens of reports of injuries that the product poses a risk of scratches and fire.

According to CTV, a recall notice issued by Health Canada warns that the recalled BlendJet 2 portable blender may overheat or catch fire, and that the blades of the blender may break during use.

As of Dec. 14, the company had received one report of a fire and about 10 reports of metal blades breaking in Canada, although no injuries have been reported in Canada.

Outside of Canada, the company has received approximately 319 reports of blades breaking in use, 16 reports of overheating or fire, and a total of approximately $150,000 in property damage claims. The injuries in the United States include approximately 49 reports of minor burns and one report of minor scratches.

Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission are jointly sponsoring the recall, urging consumers to immediately stop using the recalled BlendJet 2 portable blender and contact BlendJet for a free replacement base.

Consumers will need to cut the rubber seal on the bottom of the recalled blender into three or more pieces and upload or email a photo showing the serial number on the bottom of the machine and the fragments of the seal to www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall or [email protected] in order to request a free replacement base from BlendJet.

The recall covers a wide range of color models, serial numbers from 5201 to 5542, and sales from October 2020 to August 2023.

The California-based company said the BlendJet 2 blenders, which are currently available for purchase through the company's website and retail partners, are not affected by the recall.
