Recently, Global Affairs Canada publicly announced that it will make improvements to the authentication service for documents used outside of Canada.

In fact, as early as May this year, Global Affairs Canada issued the following statement on Canada's accession to the Apostille Convention:

"Canada has formally acceded to the Convention on the Abolition of Requests for the Legalization of Foreign Public Documents, also known as the Hague Convention. ”

It is reported that starting January 11, 2024, it will be faster and simpler to authenticate some documents in Canada.

For example, one may need to authenticate public documents for various purposes, such as moving, working or Xi studying abroad, registering a marriage in their home country, a major event such as birth or death, repatriating human remains, dealing with international business matters, or dealing with estate matters.

When the Hague Convention comes into force in Canada on this date, a certificate called an "apostille" will be issued to authenticate public documents in Canada.

This will facilitate the use of these documents in more than 120 Convention member countries, thereby eliminating some of the steps currently required to accept documents outside of Canada.

In fact, in March this year, China also joined the convention and is a member of the convention with Canada.
