One day, he saw a CD of his work in a video store, thought it was a pirated copy, and was about to reason with the owner of the store, but the boss pointed out to him the cover of the CD, which had the name of China International Television Corporation printed on it. This company is a wholly state-owned company in which CCTV is fully invested.
It turned out that CCTV produced Chen Peisi's sketch CD without authorization, and made their 8 sketches into records and sold them in the market, without Chen Peisi and Zhu Shimao knowing.
In 1994, CCTV secretly published the sketches of Chen Peisi and Zhu Shimao. After they negotiated, the other party apologized and promised to discuss it before the next publication. But this time, CCTV published 8 of their sketches without notifying them at all.
What's even more infuriating is that they sent a lawyer to negotiate, but the other party said, "What if you go out?"
By the end of 1999, they couldn't stand it anymore and took CCTV to court, demanding more than 1.6 million yuan in compensation for infringing their copyright. After more than a year of litigation, the judge finally ruled in favor of Chen Peisi and Zhu Shimao, and CCTV compensated them 330,000 yuan.
CCTV lost the lawsuit, and Chen Peisi and Zhu Shimao formed a conflict with CCTV.
Since then, they have never had the opportunity to appear on the stage of CCTV, and TV stations in other places have followed the pace of CCTV and have not given them a chance. Some people say that it's not that CCTV blocked them, but that they don't want to go to CCTV anymore.
