The Guangdong Chinese Painting Research Association was founded in Guangzhou in February 1926 and lasted until the fall of Guangzhou in 1938. Its predecessor was the "Yanhai Cooperative Painting Society", which was founded in 1923. As a painters' society with great influence in Guangdong during the Republic of China period, it was founded in Guangzhou by Pan Hewei, together with Yao Lixuan, Huang Banruo, Luo Zhuo, Zhao Haogong, Lu Zhenhuan, Huang Shaomei, Lu Guanhai, and eight other people, and then Huang Junbi, He Guanwu, Deng Fen, Li Yaoping, Lu Zishu and Zhang Guyan joined, "Today, Shi duo despises Guoxue, and the painting school will decline in a day, and it will not be revived in a hurry, and the fear of culture will be destroyed, which will continue for India." A certain class saw this, so he united with comrades and set up the Si Society, with the purpose of studying Chinese painting and revitalizing art", which is the core pursuit of the association.
The Guangdong Chinese Painting Research Association embraces various artistic styles and encourages academic research. Not only limited to Guangdong painters, but also not limited to one family and one school, they have successively joined such as Pan Dawei, Li Yanshan, Li Fengting, Zhang Yi, Li Gemin, and even Huang Binhong in Shanghai. The whole presents an artistic height of strong inclusiveness, wide coverage and rich artistic language.
