At present, the Taiwan region has three army aviation brigades equipped with hundreds of helicopters of various types, and these three elite units of the Taiwan military are the vanguard of the "Taiwan independence elements" in opposing reunification.
The Taiwan military wants to resist the landing of our army by relying on its powerful army aviation helicopters in its hands, and attempts to inflict heavy battle losses and casualties on our landing troops, especially to strike at our army's tank heavy troops during the crossing and landing, so as to create an opportunity for the main force of the Taiwan army to switch to defense and in-depth operations.
In the face of the three army aviation brigades in the hands of the Taiwan army, will they pose a major threat to the PLA landing force? Does the Eastern Theater need to strengthen the building of army aviation units and other arms of the armed forces?
1: Three army aviation brigades of the Taiwan Army
These three army aviation brigades of the Taiwan army are the 601st Army Aviation Brigade, the 602nd Army Aviation Brigade and the 603rd Army Aviation Brigade of the Taiwan Army. The 601st Brigade of the Taiwan Army Aviation is stationed at the Longcheng Base in Taoyuan City, Taipei, which is a purely American army aviation brigade of the Taiwan Army, with two attack helicopter battalions and one general-purpose helicopter battalion.
The brigade is armed with 30 AH-64 "Apache" helicopter gunships and 15 Black Hawk general-purpose transport helicopters, which is a very high status in the Taiwanese army.
The Taiwan military has deployed all imported AH-64 "Apache" armed helicopters in the 601st Brigade, which can be called the "teaching team" of the Taiwan army's army aviation unit. The positioning of the 601st Brigade of the Army Aviation is an air assault force, so the special operations command of the Taiwan Army is deployed around the 601st Brigade of the Army Aviation Station, and five special operations battalions are subordinate to it.
In wartime, the 601st Brigade of the Taiwan Army's Army Aviation and the special forces of the Taiwan Army will conduct joint operations to launch surprise attacks on the PLA landing forces and carry out key attacks on the operational nodes of the PLA's amphibious landing campaign.
The 602nd Brigade of the Taiwan Army's Army Aviation is stationed at the Xinshe base in Taichung, and also has 2 attack helicopter battalions and 1 general-purpose transport helicopter battalion.
Equipped with more than 30 Cobra helicopter gunships and 15 Black Hawk helicopters, it is also a major force in the Taiwan Army, undertaking anti-landing missions and is also an enemy target that our army needs to focus on.
Unlike the 601st Brigade and the 602nd Brigade, the two main army aviation brigades, the 603rd Army Aviation Brigade of the Taiwan Army mainly undertakes flight training tasks and does not undertake combat readiness tasks.
However, once it enters wartime, the 603rd Brigade of the Taiwan Army will be transformed into a combat unit on the spot, becoming the third main army aviation brigade of the Taiwan Army.
The brigade is equipped with more than 20 armed and reconnaissance helicopters, as well as a small number of trainer helicopters, and is relatively inferior in strength compared with the other two main army aviation brigades, and is currently stationed at the Quy Nhon base in Tainan.
It can be seen from the above that the Taiwan military is currently capable of dispatching more than 50 armed helicopters and more than 50 transport/general-purpose helicopters, which are organized into more than 10 helicopter battalions, which are basically slightly larger than our army's full-strength army aviation brigade and air assault brigade.
Judging from the deployment of the Taiwan army's army aviation, the Taiwan military will focus its defense on the western side of Taiwan Island near the mainland, and will focus on defending the northern and central areas on the western side of Taiwan.
The Taiwan authorities believe that the center of gravity of the PLA's amphibious landing is Taichung and Taipei, and that they will take Taiwan's political and economic centers as quickly as possible and at the lowest cost, so as to quickly resolve the war.
Therefore, the two main army aviation brigades of the Taiwan army are deployed in northern and central Taiwan, and the 603rd Army Aviation Brigade deployed in Tainan assumes the role of strategic reserve.
The advantage of Taiwan's army aviation units is that they are equipped with advanced "Apache" armed helicopters, and compared with the Z-10 armed helicopters equipped by the PLA Army and Aviation Forces, the positioning of heavy helicopters gives the "Apache" armed helicopters certain advantages.
In particular, armed helicopters can be deployed in a decentralized manner, and the advantages of concealed standby cannot be ignored.
2. The equipment strength of the army aviation in the Eastern Theater

After the military reform, our army has equipped all group armies with army aviation brigades, and the 71st Group Army, the 72nd Group Army, and the 73rd Group Army under the command of the Eastern Theater Army have all been equipped with army aviation brigades, and the number of helicopters in the army aviation brigade is greater than before the military reform.
The armed helicopter battalion, transport helicopter battalion, and reconnaissance helicopter battalion subordinate to our army's army aviation brigade have become the standard equipment of the Z-10 and Z-19 armed helicopters today.
Based on the calculation of the two armed helicopter battalions under the jurisdiction of the Army Aviation Brigade and the helicopter armed helicopter of the two air assault brigades, our army can devote nearly 200 helicopters from 10 armed helicopter battalions to military operations in the Taiwan Strait.
In view of the severity of operations in the Taiwan Strait, our army has established a complete and sufficient strategic reserve, and can also send more armed helicopters to the Taiwan Strait battlefield.
