The 40th Antarctic expedition of the mainland can be described as a large number of tasks and a tight schedule. Some of the team members are building a new station on Enksburg Island, and the "Snow Dragon 2" research ship has returned from the South Pole to the port of Lyttelton in New Zealand.
Go to Antarctica to observe krill and measure sea temperature...... Twenty-eight scientists gathered and set off
On the evening of the 22nd, Beijing time, the reporter came to Shanghai Pudong International Airport to meet with the members of the scientific expedition team who were about to go to New Zealand to take the "Snow Dragon 2". A total of 22 people departed from Shanghai and 6 people departed from Guangzhou, and a total of 28 people participated in this ocean scientific expedition. They come from the Ministry of Natural Resources' subordinate units and scientific research institutions, as well as universities in related fields, and their research interests involve different fields such as marine environment and biological investigation.
Wang Hangzhou, member of China's 40th Antarctic Expedition: I mainly make a plankton imaging system and put it in the water. Krill and plankton can be observed for a long time.
Shi Jiuxin, member of the 40th Chinese Antarctic Expedition: What we observe is the temperature and salinity of the seawater, plus the ocean current.
Wang Hualong, member of the 40th Chinese Antarctic Expedition: I mainly study marine viruses and their host microorganisms. We can concentrate a ton of seawater to only 50 milliliters, because then the virus is very abundant and we can sequence it.
The "Snow Dragon 2" will set off again in front of the Amundsen Sea!
After more than 20 hours of travel, the scientific expedition team members of the "Snow Dragon 2" arrived at the port of Littleton, New Zealand, nearly 10,000 kilometers away, and loaded some scientific research equipment onto the ship. On the 25th, the "Snow Dragon 2" set off again.
CCTV reporter Chen Bo: This is the port of Littleton in New Zealand, it is now 6 o'clock in the afternoon local time, after completing the supply of fuel, fruits and vegetables and other important materials, here has also ushered in a new 28 scientific expedition members, now with the help of the pilot ship, the "Snow Dragon 2" is slowly leaving the port, the next step is to go to the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica, to carry out ocean scientific research.
The ocean expedition is about to kick off!
The "Snow Dragon 2" departed from Shanghai on November 1, arrived at the new station in the Ross Sea on December 6, and returned to the port of Littleton in New Zealand on December 23 after completing the transfer of personnel for the construction of the new station and the unloading of materials for the construction of the new station.
Wang Jinhui, deputy leader of China's 40th Antarctic expedition: In terms of phased tasks, the first stage started on November 1, and so far, the "Snow Dragon 2" has mainly been to supply materials to our new station in the Ross Sea, focusing on ensuring the construction of our new research station. Beginning on December 25, it is the second stage of the "Snow Dragon 2", that is, the mission of the ocean scientific expedition.
Where are the ships "Snow Dragon" and "Tianhui" at the moment?
A total of three ships participated in the 40th Antarctic Expedition of the mainland, each performing its own duties. When the "Snow Dragon 2" set off again, where were the other two ships? Let's take a look at the satellite tracking of the polar research team of Wuhan University.
The "Snow Dragon" is on its way to the Great Wall Station in Antarctica and is estimated to arrive in three days.
The Tianhui wheel is still near the new station in the Ross Sea, less than 1 km from the new station.
