Gemfields' December rough ruby auction sold for $69.5 million

Gemfields has just announced the results of its final round of rough ruby auctions of 2023, with a total of 97 rough ruby lots sold for a total of 239591 carats and a total of $69.5 million, with an average price of $290 per carat.

The rough rubies in this auction are mined from the Montepuez mine in Mozambique and cover high, medium and low quality rough rubies. According to a data report released by Gemfields, the total auction revenue of Gemfields in 2023 is $242 million, setting the company's second-highest performance record to date.

Since June 2014, Gemfields has held 21 rough Mozambican ruby auctions with a total turnover of US$1.05 billion.

Dubai-based diamond company Choron will cut a rough 108.39ct pink diamond

Lesotho diamond miner Storm Mountain Diamonds has just announced the sale of a majority stake in a 108.39ct giant rough pink diamond to Dubai-based diamond company Chron, which will cut, polish and sell. Storm Mountain, for its part, will retain a minority stake in the proceeds from the sale of the diamond.

The 108.39ct rough pink diamond was mined in March this year from the Kao mine in northern the Kingdom of Lesotho and was graded Fancy Intense Pink and Type IIa, making it one of the largest rough pink diamonds of its kind ever found in the world and one of the most significant diamond discoveries ever made in Lesotho.
