In 2021, the "Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035" clearly proposed to "further promote reading for all people and build a scholarly China". Reading for rural children has always been a common concern in society, and it is also the focus and difficulty in the promotion of reading in China. According to the 2022 Survey Report on the Reading Status of Rural Primary Schools in Mainland China, the average number of extracurricular books read by rural primary school students is 3.27, less than one-third of the number of books read by primary school students in China.
