My journey to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Part I)

author:The egg of the Great Wave

I came to work in Tokyo in 2019. I bought my first Nintendo Switch – a second-hand first version of the machine. I also bought a set of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with a bonus and embarked on a journey to the continent of Hyrule. At that time, it was already 2 years after the release of Breath of the Wild.

At this point in time, it's a little strange to have a game from 7 years ago. But I still wanted to bring my journey to Breath of the Wild a happy end. I also want to start a "preface" to my journey to "Tears of the Kingdom".

I know there's a lot to share with you in this fascinating continent, but in this article, I'm probably going to talk about the people who fascinate me the most.

Believe it or not, my favorite thing to do in Breath of the Wild is actually collecting memory fragments.

The process of collecting these memories of Link's past has a sense of decryption, and it also allows me to see through these fragments the bits and pieces that happened to Link a hundred years ago. The process of collecting the pieces is the process of reducing the link that I manipulated to a person who never spoke and seemed to have little emotion.

The process of collecting these memory fragments in this lonely wilderness a hundred years later is like collecting warmth.

The first memory fragment shows Zelda's imitation of the primeval knighthood ceremony and canonization of Link as her own knight.

For Zelda, Link is a symbol of her inferiority. Although Zelda is a princess, she has not been able to successfully exert the "sealing power" she should have since she was a child. Therefore, she felt inferior when she saw that she had outstanding skills and had successfully pulled out the master sword and became a brave link.

Performing the ritual is also another attempt to see if it will help to activate the power of your seal.

Link's presence would make Zelda feel anxious and inferior, and more importantly, the fact that Zelda herself could not use the "power of sealing" smoothly and could not help the Dao Hyrule Kingdom and all her friends made Zelda herself unbearable. To this end, she began to look for other ways to try to find a way out of the "power of the seal". For example, research the technology of the Hika clan, study the Guardian Machine, and study the ruins that exist throughout Hyrule.

In the fifth memory fragment, Link is Zelda's knight and has to protect her closely. But Zelda sometimes just wants to do something alone, and wants to be alone. So she told Link not to follow her. I'm sure quite a few of us have had such moments.

Urpoza was once the former patriarch of the Grud clan and a friend of Zelda's mother. Therefore she also takes great care of Zelda, when she is her own little princess. She sees Zelda's efforts and feels sorry that her efforts are not being rewarded.

In the sixth memory fragment, she asks Link to protect Zelda.

In the DLC Heroic Verse EX, you can get additional memory fragments, and you can see Urpoza say more of her inner feelings to Zelda.

You can also appreciate Bolpoza's great strength and heroic posture in battle.

As Link became Zelda's knight for a long time, the two got to know each other better. In the seventh memory fragment, Link can be seen from the princess from the hands of the Igai group.

Link in Zelda's eyes seemed to have a different feeling from this time.

In the ninth memory fragment, an inconsequential little thing is said.

Zelda is also very interested in the flora and fauna of the continent of Hyrule. When I look at the endangered flower "Hime" (Princess Tranquility), I think of myself because its name is related to "Princess......

But our princess soon turned her attention to the head of the frog by the grass, because this frog may well have the effect of improving the human body!

Having experienced the pain of her mother's death since she was a child, and the anxiety of not being able to stimulate the power of the seal, Zelda, who always lives in pain and failure, lives an optimistic and positive character. Isn't that cute.

In the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth memory fragments, it was the king who forbade Selda to participate in the research of the ancient ruins and relics, so that Zelda could focus more on awakening the power of the seal.

This put considerable pressure on Zelda. But as a princess, she has no way to escape.

She visited the holy places of Hyrule one after another to practice, the fountain of strength, the fountain of wisdom...... But no matter how much she prayed, no matter how much she prayed, the power of the divine seal still did not come to her.

Finally, after another failed return from the Fountain of Wisdom, the resurrection of Calamity Ganon finally arrives, and all the heroes return to their beasts, and Link and Zelda go to Hyrule Castle to prepare to deal with Ganon - albeit without the help of the Seal's power.

At last...... As players know, just a hundred years before the time point of Breath of the Wild, at the moment of the resurrection of Calamity Ganon, Ganon easily manipulated all the guardians dug up by the Kingdom of Hyrule, and also controlled the four divine beasts. The Four Heroes, who had become Zelda and Link's best friends, died in a sneak attack, and Zelda's father, King Hyruleru, was also killed in battle. Only Link escorted Zelda and fled.

In the sixteenth memory fragment, a desperate Zelda pounces into Link's arms. At this moment, she lost everything she loved, and only Link was left with her. She blamed herself deeply, for her own powerlessness.

Finally, in the seventeenth memory fragment, Link also ran out of strength on the way to death, and the two were about to be killed by the guardians who rushed in. At this moment, Zelda stood in front of Link - perhaps the absolute need to protect the last person who was extremely important to him played a crucial role, "Sealing Power", it finally burst into a bright light in Zelda's hands.

Finally took out the enemy. But at this time, Link was still irretrievably moribund and about to die.

At this time, Zelda seemed to hear the sword spirit lodged in the master's sword speaking to her: Link is still saved.

Zelda troubled the Shika clan to send Link to the Temple of Resurrection, and on the other hand, she rushed to the Great Forest of Hyrule with the Master Sword. She was no longer the little girl she used to be, she was gentle and strong, she didn't cry anymore.

She would wait for Link to wake up and find herself a hundred years from now. Then join Link to defeat Calamity Ganon.

Then tell Link what he wants to say.

Although the players always tease Princess Zelda and ridicule the big hooligan of Hyrule, saying that they are really unfamiliar with Zelda. But I believe there aren't many people who really hate Zelda. This real, warm character really made me like it.
