Tian Bin: Every time it's like walking a tightrope on the line of life and death

Rule of Law Daily reporter Wang Ying correspondent Chen Yuhang

There is no chance of repeating his work, there is no room for mistakes, and his "battlefield" does not need to be cheered on, but can only move forward alone in the silent world. He is Tian Bin, deputy captain of the First Brigade of the Patrol Special Police Detachment of the Fuzhou City Public Security Bureau in Fujian Province.

"EOD is like walking a tightrope on the line between life and death, requiring every EOD player to have a 'big heart', no distractions, and go all out to complete the task. Tian Bin said. In the past 16 years of public security work, he has participated in the disposal of explosive-related scenes more than 30 times, disposed of 19 explosives, won 1 second-class merit and 5 third-class merits, and was awarded the honors of "Model of Love and Dedication" in Fuzhou City and Outstanding People's Police in Fuzhou City.

In 1996, at the age of 18, Tian Bin joined the army and became an engineer in charge of mine blasting. Ten years later, he joined the public security team and became an EOD operator, continuing to give full play to his professional expertise, sharpening his EOD experience, and gradually growing into a "bomb disposal expert" in the Fuzhou Police Force.

On the evening of March 23, 2016, Tian Bin received a police report that a suspect was armed with explosives and wanted to commit a crime, and he and his team members immediately rushed to the scene. At this time, the nearby crowd has been evacuated, and a cordon has been set up at the scene.

"As soon as I got close to the car, I could smell the pungent smell of black powder, and there were obvious signs of burning in the car. When it comes to this EOD experience many years ago, Tian Bin is still deeply impressed.

In accordance with the standard disposal process at the scene of the explosion, Tian Bin and the team members immediately took action. With the EOD suit, portable X-ray machine, water cannon gun, and EOD ball tanker all ready, Tian Bin held the X-ray machine in his hand and approached the explosives step by step. Under the illumination of the X-ray machine, the explosive device in the explosives "appeared in its original form".

How can we safely defuse the bomb without causing harm to the surrounding people? I saw Tian Bin approaching the explosives, commanding the team members to set up an explosive disposal line and aiming the "water cannon guns" at the explosives.

"Bang!" With a loud bang, the explosives were dismantled. Just when everyone was relieved, the careful Tian Bin found that the demolition effect was not satisfactory when he conducted a second inspection of the explosives, and there was a possibility of explosion at any time. He made a quick decision, put on an EOD suit again, brought dismantling tools, and manually disassembled the explosives. Time passed by second, and everyone's hearts were in their throats. After 20 minutes of careful work, Tian Bin turned around and gave a thumbs up to his colleagues from a distance, and everyone was completely relieved.

"One of the gangsters threatened to plant a bomb at a bus hub, please go and deal with it immediately. ”

The team members put on an EOD suit for Tian Bin.

On August 2 this year, Tian Bin received an EOD task order. He immediately rushed to the scene with equipment and team members. After investigating, the EOD team quickly pinpointed the location of the explosives - the inside of the left rear tire of a bus. The operator Wang Jie carefully controlled, and the EOD robot slowly approached, stretched out his "hand" to clamp the explosives, and slowly transferred to a nearby open area to wait for processing. Subsequently, Tian Bin, who was fully armed, was dressed in a 35-kilogram EOD suit and held an electric EOD rod, carefully approached the explosives, clamped them firmly, and then slowly transferred them to the EOD tank to "seal", and the danger at the scene was officially lifted.

This was an EOD exercise organized by the patrol special police detachment of the Fuzhou City Public Security Bureau on the same day.

In recent years, Fuzhou has undertaken more and more major activities of various kinds, and the safety and security tasks have also been increased, and the density and intensity of EOD training and actual combat drills have been gradually upgraded. Since the beginning of this year, the EOD team led by Tian Bin has carried out nearly 10 actual combat drills without any mistakes.

"Every drill is a real gun and live ammunition competition, the purpose is to let the team members practice a real skill, do not let go of any link, to ensure that every EOD is foolproof to the greatest extent. Tian Bin said.

Tian Bin wore explosive disposal and took chopsticks to clip mung beans to exercise his hand sensitivity.

Alarm clocks, Coke cans, lamps, books, many boxes of different sizes...... In the cabinet of the EOD work laboratory of the patrol special police detachment of the Fuzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, all kinds of small objects are displayed, which are all replicas of explosive-related devices collected by the EOD operators after each "birth and death".

"At present, most of the various types of explosive devices are self-made, the internal and external structures are complex, and there is no law to follow, and the field team asks us to 'play' with these replicas whenever we have time, the purpose is to be more vigilant and aware of the various explosive devices that may appear. Team member Wu Zhiping introduced.

Tian Bin said that only high standards and strict requirements can bring out elite soldiers and strong generals. Based on his more than 10 years of EOD experience, combined with the story behind each explosive device, he wrote a 75,000-word EOD manual for teaching and communication. During the training, Tian Bin also summarized the training methods such as wearing an EOD suit, threading needles and threads, clamping mung beans, and holding an electric EOD rod to clamp eggs, so that the players could improve their professional skills and psychological quality in rich and interesting training.

"The purpose of this training method is to allow the team members to learn to skillfully operate various equipment in an extremely stressful and physically exhausting state, and to dispose of different explosive devices stably for a long time, so as to test whether they can quickly and meticulously defuse the danger. Tian Bin explained that the on-site disposal time of EOD work is often as long as tens of minutes or even hours, which requires EOD personnel to have sufficient physical reserves and strong ability to withstand pressure.

Under the leadership of Tian Bin, the EOD team has successfully completed emergency response tasks again and again, and has gradually refined itself into a "bomb disposal police team" with excellent work style and excellent professional skills. In the past 10 years, the EOD team has successfully completed more than 300 security and major security tasks for various large-scale events, and carried out more than 1,500 security checks, protecting the lives and property of the masses in the "silent" battlefield.
