"Jie(gi)Jiao" is a dialect of Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County in Chongqing, which means to mediate and deal with conflicts and disputes. Walking 22 kilometers northeast of Xiushan County, entering Longchi Town and coming to Longchi People's Court, the reporter of "Rule of Law Daily" walked into the "Laotian Settlement Room". The desk in the settlement room was full of files, a little messy, and an old man with gray temples was flipping through the case files that were about to be mediated. He is the old Tian in the mouth of the local people - Tian Maoqing, the resident mediator of the Longchi People's Court of the Xiushan County People's Court.
Lao Tian served as a soldier, and after transferring from the army in 1988, he chose to work in the Longchi Court of Xiushan Court, where he worked for 32 years. Because he is good at mediation, he has been commended by the Chongqing High People's Court as an outstanding judge guiding people's mediation work, a model of trial business in Chongqing and an expert in mediation. After retiring in 2020, Lao Tian continued to serve as a resident mediator, and in April this year, a special mediation studio was established - "Lao Tian Settlement Room".

Earlier this year, a young couple came to the Longchi court to sue for divorce, and both of them did not want the 4-year-old boy they had adopted together for various reasons.

Because it involves issues such as the guardianship and maintenance of minors, this case cannot simply deal with the contradiction of dissolution of marriage. The attitude of both spouses who refuse to raise the child is very clear, and if the child is forcibly awarded to either party for custody, it is not conducive to the child's growth. Considering these factors, the presiding judge transferred the case to the "Lao Tian Settlement Room" and asked Lao Tian to mediate.
After Lao Tian learned about the case, after some thought, he set off to the child's grandfather's house. Seeing Lao Tian coming, the child's grandfather came into the house and brought a stool, and the two sat in the courtyard and started a homework. Later, the old man called the child's parents and helped Lao Tian persuade the two.

Under Lao Tian's persuasion, the child's parents finally reached a divorce agreement, the child followed the father, and the mother compensated for the child support.
Because Lao Tian is very familiar with the local social conditions and people's feelings, and the child's grandfather is also an old acquaintance, when he first saw this case, he knew what was going on, and Lao Tian knew that the child's grandfather liked this little boy very much, and the grandfather and grandson had a deep relationship, so they would go straight to the child's grandfather's house and let him help mediate.

In order to facilitate the people who are far away from the court, the Xiushan Court has successively set up the "Laotian Settlement Room" in 8 townships and towns in the jurisdiction of the Longchi Court, including Songnong, Yongdong and Daxi, and Laotian regularly conducts mediation work, giving face-to-face lectures to more than 120 mediators in various townships and villages, and striving to train more "Xiaotian" mediators to resolve more contradictions and disputes at the grassroots level and before litigation.
