Kyoto, October 16, 2016 – The 3rd Kyoto International Film Festival closed on October 16, 2016. At the Yoshimoto Gion Hanazuki Theater in Kyoto, the closing film of the festival was screened, Belgian director Gilles Laurent's documentary about how the people of Fukushima lived after the 3.11 earthquake in Japan, "The Land of the Land" (formerly known as La Terre Abandonée). The commemorative film is Gilles Laurent's first and final feature-length documentary, who became an innocent victim on March 22 of this year when he was working on the film in his native Belgium when he was hit by a terrorist attack inside a Brussels metro station.

After Gilles Laurent's death, his Japanese wife Reiko Koto and other staff members worked together to finally complete the film, which was released in Belgium for the first time in Japan.

Before the release of the closing film, a commemorative talk show was held, Gilles Laurent's Japanese wife Reiko Etomo took the stage, and the famous actress Reiko Takashima also rushed to the venue and presented flowers to Reiko Toshiko.
