On December 18, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said that the human remains found by police in the trash cans in the Tarzana area of Los Angeles in early November were all identified as those of Mei Li Haskell, her husband, Haskell.

The case occurred on Nov. 7 when Haskell hired four temporary workers to carry heavy black plastic garbage bags from their residence. One of the workers found a human stump when he opened the bag. The workers returned the garbage bags and their salaries and subsequently called the police. When the police arrived, the bag was gone.
The next day, waste pickers found garbage bags containing body pieces in a dumpster near Encino Ventura Boulevard, and police saw Haskell dumping the body the day before on surveillance footage and arrested him at the Topanga shopping center.
In this case, Haskell has a unique status, a successful director and producer, who was sentenced to three years of probation for using a lethal weapon in his early years.
