In the bustling city, each of us is like an ant trapped in a glass bottle, trying hard to climb but always hitting a wall. High housing prices have led many people to opt for small homes – those with little space in the city. Today, I would like to share with you a small trick to turn your small home into magic. The sun was shining exceptionally brightly that weekend, and I sat on the couch in my living room and suddenly felt a sigh of suffocation. Between the four walls, the space is so narrow that it is difficult to breathe. I couldn't help but wonder how I could break through this limitation and make this small space "grow"? Inspiration suddenly flashed: smash the partition wall separating the living room and bedroom! Wouldn't it be possible to have a more spacious living area by merging these two spaces into one? Of course, it was not a blind decision. I first picked up a ruler and measured every corner of the two rooms little by little. Then, take out a pen and paper and start drawing a new floor plan.
After thinking about the choice of baffle, I decided to use a decorative baffle that is both light and beautiful, which can not only retain the independence of the space, but also not make the space feel oppressed. I imagined an open living room on one side and a quiet study or tatami area on the other. Although there is no physical partition between the two areas, the ingenious design of the baffle is like an invisible screen, which not only retains the privacy of the space, but also loses the sense of transparency. The day I started, I was nervous and excited. As the last brick was cleared, everything settled, and the living room seemed to breathe a big breath of fresh air and become brighter. The choice of the baffle is a lightweight material that I have carefully selected before, which is much smaller than that of a traditional brick wall, so that the footprint is greatly reduced, and at the same time, it is just the right height to ensure the openness of the space without losing privacy. The creation of the study area is equally important.
I decided to set up a ceiling-high bookshelf behind the sofa, which not only satisfies the need for storage, but also visually extends the space and makes the whole living room look taller. The shelves are lined with books and decorations, simple yet stylish. And when it comes to tatami mats, this is one of the highlights of this renovation. I created an open tatami area in the original bedroom location. During the day, it can be a relaxing area, and at night, it can be transformed into a cosy makeshift bedroom. When guests visit, this is their little place and they don't have to worry about running out of places to settle down. Of course, without the physical walls, the interaction between the two spaces is greatly enhanced. It is no longer the isolated solitude that used to be, whether the family is watching TV in the living room or reading in the study, they can interact at any time, and the communication between parents and children is more convenient. After the renovation was completed, I stood in the center of the original living room, looking around, every corner was comfortable and spacious. I couldn't help but smile, it turns out that a small apartment can be so lively and interesting, so spacious and bright.
Some people say that home is the smallest country, and I would say that with a little ingenuity and creativity, this country can expand infinitely and become more exciting. Now, in my own small universe, every day is extraordinarily satisfying. Perhaps, this is the small blessing in life.
