According to Thai media news, recently, the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Commission of Thailand (NESDC) released a report on poverty and inequality in Thailand in 2022.
According to the report, the 10 provinces with the highest proportion of poor people in Thailand in 2022 are: Mae Hong Son, Tao Gong, Karasin, Pattani, Lai Xing, Sisaket, Yala, Nong Lam Pu, Chai Na, and Ranong. Among them, Mae Hong Son has been ranked among the five provinces with the highest proportion of poor people in Thailand for 19 consecutive years, reflecting the long-standing poverty problem in the province.
By region, the northeastern region of Thailand has the highest percentage of poor at 37.7%, followed by the southern region (23.9%), the northern region (20.1%), the central region (15%) and Bangkok (3.3%). In any case, in 2022, the proportion of poor people in many places such as the northeast and north of the country has improved, but there is still a serious and concentrated poverty problem in the three southern provinces (Pattani, Yela, and Taogong).
