On December 15, the 2023 World Sailing Confrontation Tour (WMRT) Shenzhen Bao'an Finals and the World Bay Area Regatta staged a series of fierce battles, and the traditional Chinese sailing competition held in another arena has also become the object of public pursuit. At about 4 o'clock in the afternoon of the same day, two traditional Chinese sailing boats set sail to meet the slowly setting sun, showing a beautiful picture of the fusion of tradition and modernity under the "Bay Area Light" Ferris wheel.
In 2019, Quanzhou shipbuilders Huang Wucone and Huang Dongwei built a sea crab boat with the support of public welfare funds, participated in the 13th and 15th China Cup Regattas, measured excellent sailing performance, and attracted the attention of domestic and international competitors and audiences. Before the 2023 WMRT Shenzhen Bao'an Finals and World Bay Area Regatta, funded by the event operator Shenzhen Zongheng Sihai Sailing Club Co., Ltd., a Quanzhou sea crab boat of the same model was restored and built as the first competition vessel in the history of the traditional Chinese sailing competition against the exhibition competition, so as to carry out public welfare activities for the protection, inheritance and innovative development of traditional Chinese sailing culture.
On the afternoon of December 15, Huang Dongwei and a number of non-genetic inheritors from Ningde, Taizhou, Panjin and other places drove the two sea crab boats to the sea to show the charm of traditional Chinese sailing boats to the public in the form of an exhibition competition, and also attracted multinational crews from the Eye Shenzhen team and the Macao rainbow sailing team to come for test drive and Xi. FARDEL Christian, the French skipper of the Eye Shenzhen team, said: "I learned how to steer this boat in the China Cup Regatta more than a month ago, and I Xi Xi to practice again today, hoping to be able to sail this beautiful Chinese sailing yacht independently in the weekend's exhibition race. ”
Huang Dongwei thinks it is very cool for traditional Chinese sailing to appear on the world stage: "This event allows traditional Chinese sailing to once again appear on the stage of international competitions, which is very beneficial to the promotion and inheritance of Chinese sailing." We hope that more people will understand the advantages of traditional Chinese sailing boats in terms of safety and practicality, and have a deeper understanding of its value. ”
The sea crab boat is a Quanzhou ship type, mainly used by villages near the mouth of the Jinjiang River, engaged in sea crab fishing in the Taiwan Strait, and engaged in hairtail fishing in Shipu, Zhejiang Province during the non-sea crab fishing season. The ship has been in use since the middle of the Qing Dynasty and has been in use until the 80s of the last century. Huang Dongwei introduced that the ship often went to Taichung, Lukang and other places in Taiwan to trade from the late 20s to the end of the 40s of the 20th century, and there was mutual benefit and seamless exchanges.
In order to give a new life to the traditional Chinese sailing boat, Huang Dongwei and his father Huang Wucone improved the traditional sea crab boat. Huang Dongwei said: "The original sea crab boat was 12 meters long, which was to meet the needs of display, competition, transportation and so on. My father and I improved the hull structure, and now both boats are about 8 meters long, and the hatch cover has been removed to lower the center of gravity. My father and I hope to take the opportunity of this World Sailing Tournament and the World Bay Area Regatta to let more people understand and experience traditional Chinese sailing and inherit our traditional culture. ”
The organizing committee also set up a Chinese traditional sailing model exhibition in the event village, displaying a number of traditional Chinese sailing models with explanatory texts and pictures, so that more citizens can get close to traditional Chinese sailing boats, have an in-depth understanding of Chinese culture, and promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional sailing culture and navigation culture in various ways.
